What's Spinning

These 5 songs got me through some tough times as an anxious/paranoid young kid living in the city 20 years ago. Huge nostalgia waves going on right now. Check them out if you were ever an emo kid who had big feelings and never knew how to properly express them. Check them out even if you weren’t!

Not sure how I didn’t realize until now that it was recorded/engineered/mixed by Mike Mogis. I should’ve known better.

Charlie Parker - The Complete Savoy Studio Sessions (Savoy, 1978 5LP Mono Box Set)

I started and finished a great little book on Charlie Parker (written by Brian Priestly) in the space of a few hours and had the urge to listen to some of his music. This 5 LP set covers his complete Savoy recordings which, along with Dial, are arguably his best. Great stuff here.

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#249: Archie Shepp - Attica Blues

#250: Wayne Shorter - Juju

Wayne Shorter is my favorite jazz artist of all time, and, while it is a very tough call, this is probably my favorite album of his. I think the personal on this record highlights the influence of Coltrane on his playing, while serving as a platform to show all the ways in which Shorter differs from Trane. Great compositions, passionate performances, and some next level interplay between the musicians here.
