What's Spinning

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#288: Juanito Valderrama - Cante Flamenco

#289: Vangelis - Opera Sauvage

Cryoshell - Cryoshell (2010)

Few albums have had such a profound impact on my music taste as this one. Really, this was the album that got me into music as a whole. This is because several songs from this album were used to promote Lego's Bionicle product line. Amazing Scandinavian gothic hard rock. This album has never had a US physical release, so this is the (complete) Japanese CD press. If you're a fan of Evanescence, Within Temptation or any similar bands, I HIGHLY recommend giving this a listen.

This hasn't happened in a while...

I woke up on Monday morning with an ‘Invoice sent’ mail sat waiting for me for a record that drunk me had ordered. Turns out I’d bought one from my long list (you know, the stuff where if it’s in the right place at a basically sensible price and you’ve got the disposable income, you’ll go for it rather than something you’ll buy and work out how to pay for later). As such, I’m now the owner of a copy of Le Péril Jaune by Indochine. Somewhat problematic title notwithstanding, it’s an interesting album. It’s basically a standard helping of New Wave but the manner in which synths are used in it gives an origin point to the French Electronica sound of more recent years. This is a more recognisable ancestor of the Daft Punk, Cassius, Vitalic etc sound than Jean Michell Jarre (who often gets all the credit) is.
