What's Spinning

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#291: V. A. - Vaudeville Blues

#292: VSOP - The Quintet

There's nothing you can do to change my mind about Miles Davis's Second Quintet being the best and most important group in Kazz history. Here they are, almost a decade after leaving Miles, and adding my favorite trumpet player (Freddie Hubbard) to the mix. This has got to be one of my favorite albums by either of these musicians. You can hear the teachings of Miles on every performance, but also rhe confidence and originality that each one of them had acquired from their years as leaders. If you're a fan of Jazz give this album a listen, in case you haven't already.

Could you give me your impressions of the pressings? I've been eyeing this...

I have only listened to 2 of the albums so far. It's a really nice set, but I wouldn't say the pressings are very special. I'm not sure how well recorded these albums are or if they were remastered for vinyl. They aren't the most dynamic sounding records.

Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and Cooked

A recent Discogs purchase - I forgot how many great songs this album had, including one of my all time favorite covers (“Ever Fallen in Love”) Also, for a 30+ year old record that is thin as a wafer it sounds pretty amazing.
