Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet [2/5]

View attachment 80223

Dare I say this is my 2nd favorite Stereolab album (right behind Dots and Loops)? The dreamier textures/timbres are alluring here.
It’s my 2nd favorite too, though right behind Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Obviously Dots & Loops is a stellar album as well though that run of LPs is quite something.

Looks unavailable at the moment but I’ve added it to my watch lists. Another band to try and keep up with.

toe must have been one of those blind buys that I heard something about online (maybe here) and ordered. Sunday’s surprise hit. Really liked the one I’ve got.

Edit: Looks like a couple other toe vinyl LPs still avail on Bandcamp. I grabbed this one as it is near selling out:

I got one of the first presses on gray of this, and I have to say the quality could be better. I need to crank it up a little for maximum enjoyment. I do recommend to track down "the book about my idle plot..." I think that's toe's best album, but "songs, ideas we forgot" has some of my favorite songs. I also like the "For Long Tomorrow" album, but same as the "Hear Your" pressing I have it's a little on the low volume side.

Let me know if the new press sounds good! I would like to get a better copy of those albums. I've been following toe since the beginning, so would like to have a complete collection, one day.

Ray Charles - Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music (His Master's Voice, 1962 First Mono Pressing)

I visited a record shop for the 2nd time this weekend (after not going for most, if not all of this year!) and they actually had a decent collection of 2nd hand records, especially jazz. Turns out that they were still buying stock even when people were not able to access the shop to buy themselves. A lot of it was overpriced to be honest, but this one stood out to me and only cost a tenner. I regretted not picking it up when it came up on the VMP store, but I wasn't too familiar with Ray Charles and couldn't justify it. Glad I waited as this was certainly worth £10. Really digging it, full of fantastic songs.

Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd - Jazz Samba (Verve, 2017 VMP Pressing)

I totally forgot that I had a first pressing of this. I saw it in my discogs collection the other day and was baffled by it......but just found it on my shelf! Might be getting into this too deep....
