So apparently it is the man himself MC Ride's birthday today. Coincidence??? Idk. Either way, let's spin one more quick one in honor of the most noided man in music
Death Grips - Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix)
Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin Quintet - The Tenor Scene (Esquire, 1961 First UK Mono Pressing)
This is a properly heated session that was recorded live at Minton's Playhouse in 1961. Just pure heat from start to finish. The artwok on this UK pressing is pretty cool as well.
I was listening to these fantastic Art Blakey cassettes earlier and finished the second one off just now. There are quite a few live recordings of Blakey in a collection that I bought and this is a particularly good one. After the session, the tape cuts back in with an interview with Blakey. Fantastic conversation and at one point he talks of how he told Clifford Brown to pick out any new trumpet that he wanted and he would pay for it. Clifford picked up his beat-up horn that was held together with tape and said "Mr Blakey it isn't the horn, it's me".
Hootie and the Blowfish - Fairweather Johnson
Fleetwood Mac
I rather like Hootie's second album although it didn't get anything like the attention their debut did, and top-notch white blues music from Peter Green et al (that Nice Price sticker annoys me though).
