What's Spinning

My daughter was born four years ago today.
This is the first music I intentionally listened to after she was born.
When we drove her home on the 13th from the hospital, we listened again. First my wife's pick ("Sloop John B") then mine ("God Only Knows") which, fortunately, are back to back on the tracklisting. We kept this CD in the car for the first year.

A very happy birthday to my baby girl! God only knows what I'd be without you!

This is one of the joys of being a long term forum member. I'm sure I remember this post every year, and it's great to see it pop up. Happy birthday to your daughter!

Lee Morgan - The Rajah (Blue Note, 2021 Tone Poet Pressing)

Since I binged some Lee Morgan on Saturday I have been humming some of his songs, so decided to listen to another. I wouldn't say there is anything earth-shaking in this session compared with his others but it's still classic Morgan in fine form. Charisma was recorded 2 months before with the same line-up and is arguably more exciting, but it's sometimes nice to hear Morgan in a more relaxed playing style over his normal full-throttled approach.

The Collection Playthrough

So I had a draft and lost them, so this may be a bit out of order!

041 - George Michael - Faith
042 - Elvis' Golden Records
043 - Faye Webster - I Think I'm Funny haha
044 - Paul Simon - Graceland

These four were plays in the daily thread

Other plays include

045 - Norah Jones - Featuring...

I haven't made my love of Norah Jones or her covers and collaborations a secret here, and this is one of two releases she has on vinyl dedicated to her work with other artists. It's not curated exactly as I would have done, but it's really a rock solid filled 2 LP and a great representation of how she fits into the musical inclinations of so many different musicians...I just wish I bought it when it was $20 instead of twice that now on re-sale.

046 - Watkins Family Hour - Brother Sister

I mean, the Watkins in their various formulations are always rock solid Bluegrass, and this is no exception. The ending 1-2 of covers are, for me, the highlight of the record (no one ever seems to cover Zevon and the last track is a full on jam sesh). Great cheaper pickup for those considering it.
