What's Spinning

The Collection Playthrough Catchup Continued

087 - The Bird and the Bee - The Bird and the Bee
088 - The Bird and the Bee - Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future

I love this duo. Inara George and Greg Kurstin had that twee-indie pop magic with a little bit of punch that really permeates throughout these two releases. There some cutting lyricism throughout and some absolute gems of songs. I'm personally more a fan of the self-titled as the songs where they really dig in are the ones that end up getting me to re-listen, but Ray Guns is a great 2 LP with a top flight Bee Gees cover and a slew of other really nice songs

089 - Dessa - Castor the Twin

OK...this was me hunting for a copy with the sheet music from RSD. Struck out, so now I have two copies of Castor The Twin. With that said it is Dessa's most difficult record to find and I think an absolute gem of reimagination. One of those great "transition" albums of what she was and what she was to come. I'll likely hold on to this until I find a buyer who really wants to add this to a collection.

090 - Donna Summer - On The Radio

This is N&G's fault - with all the dang raving over the RSD Donna Summer and my GF's sudden new interest in disco, my local threw this on a post-RSD freebie with some other pickups. Honestly, pretty good comp and it looks more roughed up than it turned out to me.

091 - Faye Webster - Faye Webster

This was her first album and just recently got a re-pressing. I am guessing it wasn't selling that well as it was being marked down pretty steeply at a Newbury I wandered into. With that said, it's more Faye Webster. I think her future offerings had more robust thoughts and ambitions in there but this was a very enjoyable, vibe-based hint of things to come. Recommended with a whiskey drink or some other form of recreational materials.

092 - Fergie - The Dutchess

OK, this was a lark. After my very positive experience with the huge sounds of the two BEP albums I wandered into, I was wondering if this also expanded out to Fergie's world. Sadly, I don't think it did. It certainly sounds a-ok to me but is missing those big sounds and bass that really made this BEP albums worth spinning. With that said, it's a great guilty pleasure record.

093 - The Head and the Heart - Let's Be Still

This one almost convinced me to start a thread to discuss what artists consistently have strong vinyl pressings. This is my second THATH record and is the second one that just sounds right on the format. Really a strong recommend from me and can be found rather cheap for a 2xLP

094 - John Denver and the Muppets - A Christmas Together

Well until they actually press the Muppet Christmas Carol in any real quantities, this nice little beater copy found in a used bin (or one of the million new re-presses) will serve nicely for Muppet related holiday goodness.
