What's Spinning

John Lennon/Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy

I recently made a conscious decision to listen to that album in full start to finish again as I’d been very guilty of skipping all the Yoko tracks after reading about their tracks were an answer to each other’s songs ...a call a d response almost ...and I have to say it made it a much more rewarding listen ...by the end of Hard Times are Over I was quite emotional knowing what came next ....belated respect to the Yoko

It’s actually the first time I’d ever listened to it. Outside the first two and the singles I’d always been a bit ambivalent to solo Lennon. I recently bought them all second hand on one of my crazy second hand Japanese import buys!

I didn’t know that but it’s definitely the album of theirs that she’s involved in that her songs feel less grating and more a part of the whole.

Jack DeJohnette Special Edition , sensational album from 1980 featuring David Murray and Arthur Blythe .

A comp I bought a few decades ago, very surprised how great it sounds. Really needs a clean because its been hammered but the pressing is awesome. I would be so happy if most of the records I bought today sounded as good as this.

That vinyl club sound rocks. The kids today are missing out.

I might have told this story before (maybe on the old vmp forum) but it seems relevant now.

Back in 2014, we visited Iceland on holiday. We were exploring the docks one day when a local told us that in the evening there would be free ferry rides, paid for by a benefactor, to a small island off the mainland that was worth a visit. We popped down in the evening and headed over and on the way got chatting to some more tourists that told us the island was nicknamed 'John Lennon Island' and each year on the anniversary of his death Yoko Ono paid for the ferries and turned on a light that cuts through the pollutionless air like a beacon. We got there and everything seemed normal but once the sunset finished Yoko turned on the light and began wailing into a microphone whilst people held hands circling the light and swayed back and forth. I have never been in a cult but I imagine thats the kind of stuff they get up to.

Heres some photos, sorry about the quality.

Amazing comp, a bit crackly as in my drunken youth I thought the vinyl was as indestructible as my 1210's.

Giving a spin to side a, with P Funk/Cross the tracks/Expresss yourself & if you want me to stay. Same quality across all 4 albums, great comp. Very surprised to see the price sticker as £17.99 (for 4 lp's),

Forgot about the gatefold, don't think they would do that these days
