Art Blakey Live In London Cassettes.

I forgot to post this earlier today, but as it would have been Art Blakey's birthday I decided to dig out some cassettes of Blakey live in London. These were taken from 1 of 5 boxes of cassettes I have been slowly working through and were recorded across different gigs in different years, with different line-ups.

Oh man, how is it? Im hoping to get a copy soon

I was shocked to find it, as I was under the impression it wasn't due out until the 22nd.

I still have one side to go on this first listen and just finished reading the booklet - definitely an A+ package!

The set itself is absolutely killer and the accompanying booklet really supplements the experience nicely - especially the first, and largest, section written by Ashley Kahn (who wrote A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album and The House That Trane Built: The Story of Impulse Records.) It does an incredible job of setting the scene and you can really feel the energy it describes.

It plays a little on the quieter side than I expected, but I suspect that's got a lot to do with the source material - they've definitely done a great job with it, and having to turn my amp up a bit higher than usual is a small price to pay for having this set.

The only downside of the whole package, really, is the use of paper sleeves. I really hoped they would be lined at least. That said, it's an easy enough fix for being the only downside I can find.

I look forward to more people getting their hands on this one. Palo Alto last year was definitely a pretty nifty and fun well-done archival release, but A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle is truly something special!
