Lil' Ed Williams is the nephew and spitting image of JB Hutto. The genes are sound...
This is Lil' Ed's first record. At the time of recording, he worked full time at the car wash. Need proof - look the shoes Ed's wearing in the cover photo.
This entire record was recorded live in one 3 hour session. Again, this entire record was recorded live in one 3 hour session.
I can't split my top two records so they're sharing the number one slot. Both rap (possibly the only two rap records I bought this year), both British, both coming after previous fantastic albums. This Little Simz feels big and bold and full of great rhymes. A special record (and I'm hoping it tops N&G's 2021 list too).
I picked this up for $70 on ebay, and yeah, that's a lot for one record, but it usually went for double that - and now it's going for $300+ on ebay.
This one was a buy it now and had a wrong description - but I took a chance on it since it had the right title and pics. It's not their best album, but as a completist, I needed to get it...and paying $70 was better than waiting for a reissue or paying the $300 they are going for today.
Still waiting on my vinyl pre-order from Nuclear Blast...I picked this one up directly from the bands merch store and got it a couple days before the release date.
Thanks to @Russ I for the heads up on this one. Snagged from the online deals thread. Sound quality is real nice on these so far. The box itself leaves a lot to be desired (no inner sleeves on any of the records and all the outer sleeves on mine are unglued). Still very happy with it for the price though. Excited to give them all a spin.
Some random night a few months ago I fell into the rabbit hole of Italian library music. This one caught my ears when I played some on Youtube.
Jay Richford & Gary Stevan are pseudonyms used by Amleto Armando Roelens and Stefano Torossi, as they couldn't appear on other releases due to legal reasons. Sandro Brugnolini and Giancarlo Gazzani also worked on the release. All were well known in the field of soundtracks and library music.

In The Echo: Field Recordings From Earlsfort Terrace
I’m really liking this little compilation of field recordings by some of Irish folk and trad leading lights. Two of the more well known outside these shores are Lisa Hannigan and Conor O’Brien (Villagers).
These songs were recorded by musician Ross Turner around the 150th Anniversary of the National Concert Hall in Dublin. They were recorded in a series of different spaces around the complex such as lecture theatres, stairwells and even a disused former morgue. It lends an atmosphere to the recordings.
It’s well worth an explore and I’ve linked to the guardian’s review and the Bandcamp site for it.

Along with Little Simz, this has been my soundtrack of the year. I love Dave's mixture of deadly serious stuff (immigration, knife crime) and the frivolous (girls, football). His debut was my favourite of this year and this one is just as impressive to me.
