Cross post from the always fun March Challenge thread...
What is this? Is it......
Memphis horns?
Punk beats?
Latin trance?
Beat poetry?
Angular post-punk?
Free jazz skronk?
Psych blues?
Yes. Yes it is.
When I talked with Bob Kidney about this record, he told me his influences were primitive blues, Check Berry, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Archie Shepp. As Bob put it, "Elton John, he's original, right? I wanted to create something more, something uniquely original.'
He did such a great job that the industry couldn't figure out what to do with 15-60-75 and they never signed to a record deal. They've been playing regularly for 53 years without any label support.
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers I normally don’t add much to my posts here but I had been holding out for a copy of this 1986 Rhino pressing for awhile and I am glad I did. It’s sounds amazing and the vinyl condition is pristine super close to NM. Very pumped to have this.
The Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet - Change Is (Columbia, 1969 First Pressing)
The Stan Tracey Big Brass - We Love You Madly (Columbia, 1969 First Stereo Pressing)
A couple of killer Briitsh jazz gems. Don Rendell features on both and it would have been his birthday today!
