What's Spinning

Had completely forgot I owned this until I found it searching through some records for Caravanserai. Found this in the $1 bin one day and although I’m missing one record this sounds so, so, so good for $1. Will have to track down a complete copy some day. Side 1 & 4 will have to suffice for now.

Would have been interesting to see what he would have done had he not been shot by his wife (or ex-wife?).

Love this slow burner album.

This is the ltd edition that came with a poster of the electrocuted guy. Put it on my office wall, to scare students and colleagues. It just felt appropriate. And I love me some Wilco in the office too.

Love putting the poster up in your office. Have you seen other art by Joan Cornella? crazy/funny/dark stuff (some is definitely not funny).

Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, m.A.A.d City (2012, reissue 2019)

Pretty cool limited edition Target exclusive I snagged yesterday. I'm trying to explore hip-hop, so this is certainly an essential album! It's not my favorite hip-hop album, but I definitely see the appeal. Kendrick's flow and lyricism is solid. Sound quality isn't bad at all on this press, but it's nothing fantastic. For $18 though, pretty good!

Kudos for paying close attention the to the lyrics! So many casual listeners of this album that I knew totally wrote it off because they made assumptions. Weird how so many people thought Swimming pools was a pro drinking anthem for example.

There's definitely parts of the album that, at first listen, sound very surface level in terms of meaning. Like any great song though, the deeper meaning is hidden. It needs to be found, it needs to be listened for. Seems that Kendrick is great at constructing his album that way 👍
