I’ve got a well rounded Minutemen collection as they were (are) one of my favorite bands of the time. Is there a deeper connection here with this band/album other than the tribute song? Maybe I need to check out Uncle Tupelo?

No real connection other than an admiration.

Either way, an esoteric listener such as yourself should have Uncle Tupelo and their children Wilco and Son Volt on your radar.
