Meeeeeee! Got my shipping notice today so fingers crossed it’s here on Friday, or earlier!

Absolutely not looking forward to the deluge of boring opinion on here that a group of hugely successful men in their mid 30s should still be making observational songs about being working class teenagers set to lo-fi music…

Yeah they undeniably captured lightning in a bottle on their debut, but the thing about capturing lighting in a bottle is that a lot of different factors have to line up exactly right to make it happen. Part of what makes WPSIA special is that it's almost like a snapshot of a specific time and place that wouldn't feel genuine if they tried to do it now over 15 years later.

Besides, I just can't get on board with the idea that any artist should make what you want them to rather than what they truly feel like creating.

Totally. And also it was genuine, it was their lived experience. It was about a certain time and place both physically and in their lives. Once they became that wildly successful they couldn’t be that starkly observational again. They were able to a bit on FWN because they were observing the mad stuff happening to them as it all spiralled upwards faster and harder than I’m sure they could have dreamed. After that they had to adapt, no one wants to know about the lives of the rich and famous, it makes for such boring subject matter for songs.

As for musically i don’t know why people expect them to actually be anything because they rarely keep a particular sound beyond two albums, they always seem to be itchy to move onto something else as soon as they get lauded for the previous thing. It makes them a much more interesting prospect, for me at least.
