i've always had much greater fondness for DMST than for many of their post-rock peers, perhaps because they've never traded on cheap heart-tugging, bombast, or empty virtuosity. i was nervous about this record when it came out because they'd had a fairly impeccable run from '97-09, but damn if this doesn't do everything right. compositionally and sonically, it's a winner, and the packaging is particularly phenomenal.
