What's Spinning

I was good for a while. Then I got Qobuz and I couldn’t resist the hi res stream!

No too much longer, I think amazon uk have 13th September down as the street date for the vinyl.
I believe that is what I saw on my invoice from Nonesuch when I checked the other day. Getting the new Banhart, hopefully, in the same box.

Well, tell me more... I do not know these folks...

Well Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh is a fiddler from Dublin who plays a custom built fiddle he calls a hardangar d’amore because it’s somewhere between a Norwegian hardangar and an Italian viola d’amore. It has 10 strings, 5 played and 5 sympathetic, and it allows him to produce a unique drone, and at times discordant, sound. Thomas Bartlett is a virtuoso minimalist pianist and producer from Vermont. He’s sometimes professionally known as Doveman. He did the piano on St Vincent’s MassEducation reimagining of Masseduction.

They were in the modernist Irish trad band The Gloaming, whose live album I was spinning earlier, together and I heard of this a couple of days ago. I’ve heard nothing from it, the only brief description I’ve heard of it is “beautiful” and I’m going in completely blind because that’s fun! The first I’ll hear it is when I download it on bandcamp on release date because I imagine it could take a week or so to be delivered.

Sounds remarkably good for a tenspot off eBay. Low noise, dynamic, rich bass and cut nice and loud without distortion. Would recommend for those on a budget.
