Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - The Witch Doctor

Severely underrated. The last track, Lost & Found, is one of the hardest swinging tracks of Blakey's career. Would have fit right in on Free for All.
Man, checked this one out a few hours ago based on your recommendation, and holy hell there’s some amazing stuff on there.

Put in a Discogs order halfway through the album. 🤦‍♂️
Miles Davis - Nefertiti
First time listening to this. Second quintet sounds great, sure, but these songs aren't blowing my hair back.

I felt the same way on my first few listens, especially after seeing it regarded so highly on lots of top Miles’ lists. It’s definitely a grower.

I’ve really grown to love those two opening pieces by Shorter. Definitely helped to read an analysis of the song online. Very creative and sort of flips the standard of hard bop at the time on its head. Total flip of the script.

Give it some time.

So how do these presses sound?

For some reason between when I posted that and now, I listened to 'Lost & Found' again on earbuds from a youtube stream and, while it was still great, I started second guessing my high praise of it here. Maybe it was just the awesome sound on the record that put it above and beyond? Anyway, such a classic album. Easily up there with some if Blakey's best.

...if you don't want to spend more money, then if you see my post commenting how amazing 'Nica's Dream' and 'Carol's Interlude' are, do NOT stream them!

Welcome to the Art Blakey thread everyone! This is the place to post the latest Blakey record you've been grooving to!

This is anlive album of originals released on Riverside in 1963. The band is so fucking tight and on fire here. This cheap OJC pressing stands up incredibly well considering I just listened to two amazing sounding VG stamped records. Highly recommend.

So how do these presses sound?

Sounds remarkably good for a tenspot off eBay. Low noise, dynamic, rich bass and cut nice and loud without distortion. Would recommend for those on a budget.

Pretty impressive, I like them enough to see what's left after next payday. I have no doubt these would have been cut from digital files but they seem to be done well to me, none of the 75th issues. The discogs users seem to have them pegged as pressed at Record Industry but my Indeed! also has MPO etched in the runout so I'm not sure, maybe plated at one and pressed at the other?
