Interesting - I thought they sounded pretty good (Bellybutton noticeably better than Spilt Milk), but had nothing to compare them to. Not a big enough fan to fork over the money for any of the previous versions, so overall I'm good with these like you suggest.Doing a quick and dirty Side A comparison...
I'm going to start by saying I'm nowhere close to an audiophile.
- the new reissue is cut much lower in volume - so you have to turn it up a considerable amount...this isn't always isn't an issue, but there's also less runout on the reissue, so where did this extra headroom go? Usually when something is cut hotter you have less runout.
The original promo has much better bottom end and "oomph"...I want to call it "Life". The reissue sounds fine when not compared to anything - but it sounds flat and dead compared to the original.
Maybe for once Hoffman forums are onto something.
I still recommend picking them up if you see them - they sound "fine" if you just want to play it on vinyl. Who knows when they'll be released again.
