What's Spinning

Got home and it was dead silent around here. 🤔

Update: Glad I went with the basic blk vinyl. Very minimalist (thin, cheap) packaging for a box set. Almost a conscientious design feature. On 2nd LP now. A little warp but vinyl quiet so far. Pleased w/ sound quality and mix. A bit industrial. Suits to music. All good so far.

Update 2: Really liking this one. Still some of this blk vinyl (White Variant) left as it is the slowest seller. Recommended. I may need to grab a soft cover book for it. Nice. 👍

Shabaka – Afrikan Culture

Got to see Shabaka perform live in Portland last night with his sextet. I have seen Sons of Kemet (and The Comet Is Coming) perform live a number of times, and wasn't sure his new direction would capture my attention to the same extent. Well, needless to say, I was flat out wrong – it was an incredible performance. The new direction is astounding – deeply spiritual, beautiful and very powerful. Shabaka played the shakuhachi and probably a dozen other custom flutes, and was joined by Portland native Esperanza Spalding on bass on vocals. The rest of the band:
Charles Overton (harp), Chris Sholar (keys/electronics), Burniss Travis (electric bass), Austin Williamson (drums).
