Reckoning is a mighty fine sounding recording.
We were at a Joni Mitchell tribute concert last weekend and one of the performers had a story that pretty well sums up my thoughts on the Dead. She was 15 and selling roses during a four day run of the band at Red Rocks. The first three nights she said they sounded awful, out of tune, singing off key and generally sucking, in her opinion. The final night somebody paid her with a tab of orange sunshine for a rose. After taking the dose she said the band sounded incredible and she understood what the fuss was about. I never did enough acid, I guess.
