What's Spinning

The Beach Boys - Beach Boys' Party! (Capitol, 1965 first pressing)

I have a running joke with my girlfriend that I can always go to a carboot sale and walk away with a Beach Boys record I haven't already got. Even funnier is the fact that they managed to make one album stretch into countless others just by changing the track order and new jacket design. Those cheeky Beach Boys.

Clifford Brown And Max Roach - Study In Brown (Emarcy, 1955 First Canadian Mono Pressing)

Damn, Clifford Brown was just on another level of playing. This is a fantastic album to dip into if you are unfamiliar with Brown. He was one of the few 'straight' musicians of that era (no drug issues at all and, supposedly he didn't drink either) but unfortunately, that didn't prevent his early death at just 25 years old. He died in a car crash along with Richie Powell (pianist Bud Powell's brother) and Richies wife. I just read Hampton Hawes' book and he was actually supposed to be in the car as well but decided against it last minute.

Rosie Turton - Rosie's 5ive (Jazz Refreshed, 2019 first pressing)

Saw Rosie Turton live as the warm-up for Makaya McCraven earlier in the week and realized I haven't listened to this one for a while. I really enjoy the 5ive series, hope there's more in the pipeline.

Funny thing I noticed cleaning the next one from the set during a spin clean cycle this morning. I still have just as many Carpenters records left to listen to from that box. Made in America was in the flipbin when I got
this box. It’s still there. I like the Carpenters, but that box set was too much.
