New God - Firework (2014)

Great indie rock album. Put out by the label/record store Yellow K Records, based in my future University town of Frostburg, Maryland. I actually met these guys at the Yellow K store. Great band, great record! This coke bottle clear press is limited to only 50 copies.

Adem - Takes

One thing of this play-through is rediscovering how much I love certain artists - yes, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin but also somebody like Adem. He came from what I guess was called the folktronica scene but he made some gorgeous, plaintive, acoustic music. This isn't the best starting point (his debut Homesongs is) as it's an album of covers. But these versions of 1990s indie songs are wonderful - PJ Harvey, Bjork, Yo La Tengo, Bedhead and even Aphex Twin are covered. Bliss on a Sunday morning.

Mbube Roots
Zulu Choral Music from South Africa 1930s-1960s

I bought this after watching “The Lion’s Share” on Netflix. It’s worth watching even if you don’t like African music- ripping off artists has happened for centuries. Below is the original and the rip off of “Mbube”. Oh, and if you like Paul Simon’s “Graceland”- this is where it came from.
