Not spinning but watching. Jacqueline Du Pre’s story on PBS is overwhelmingly beautiful and so sad at the same time. Like living during Jimi Hendrix’s lifetime, being on earth at the same time as Ms Du Pre is a blessing. Otherworldly human being. I have to admit, behind the electric guitar, cello is my favorite instrument.
Doolittle is the Pixies at their best—Frank Black’s wild screams, Kim Deal’s cool basslines, and a perfect mix of loud-quiet-loud energy in tracks like “Debaser” and “Monkey Gone to Heaven” that defined alternative rock.
I don’t normally post here but needed to give praise to this record. I’ve had my eye out for this album for a while and finally picked it up at one of my locals recently. It wasn’t until later that I realized it was a bootleg. Which was surprising to me given just how damn good it sounds on my modest set up.
Seriously. I haven’t heard an official pressing but I can’t imagine it sounds better than this.
