Would you rather - R.E.M. vs Talking Heads edition

I would love to see R.E.M. reunite, but would also hate it because it would mean that the band members compromised everything they have said about it since they broke up, including the interview from last week where Peter said they would never be as good and what would be the point and then Michael used a Byrds' reference to describe how the band had already had their "season" as a band.

As much as I love Talking Heads I'd have to go with R.E.M. I only got into Talking Heads within the past 5 years or so. I grew up listening to R.E.M. so those albums are part of my childhood. I never got a chance to see them live.

REM is probably my favorite band of all time, so I'd love to see them again one more time, but I'd also prefer they stay retired as they've said they would. As Peter Buck said in that CBS interview, it would never be as good as it was and they all seem happy and on good terms and that makes me really happy when so many other bands I love openly hate each other.

There was also a time when Michael Stipe said that if it wasn't the 4 of them, R.E.M. would cease. And then that happened, and it didn't.

Part of my decision for being more excited about an R.E.M. reunion is because, at least publicly, they’ve been much more of a unit with a shared ethos, so, although they’d be going back on their word about being fully done, I’d be excited to see what happens if they all decided it made sense to come back. Talking Heads, AFAIK, was much more of a mess behind the scenes with egos and a tumultuous history, so a reunion would feel more murky, IMO.
