Some more singer-songwriter ladies for my chart. I don't know why I haven't listened to her before, but the self-titled record of Lianne La Havas is pure love ❤ I even have a previous album of her's in my digital library which I haven't heard a song from, I'll probably give that a run soon. Also enjoying the most recent N&G RotM and Fugazi's more widely acclaimed debut, Repeater. If you are interested in a ambient-jazzy hybrid, try out the debut record from Lemon Quartet titled Crestless. It's filled with several passages of resonant, open-bodied sounding syntheizers with an equally resonant saxophone accompanying light, airy percussion.

My week in music

Breakdown: This week I was listening to and enjoying a lot of Kanye albums. Also I've checked out and enjoyed the N&G RotMs Ibeyi and Patrick Sweany.
The new Taylor Swift record is surprisingly good and I want to listen to it more. It feels more intimate than her recent 2 records. I wouldn't have expected a new record by her this year and it's really cool it came out of nowhere. Also enjoyed Jessie Ware and the new G Eazy album. Also the Ainslie Wills album is really good. Madlib's Pinata Beats are also a great mostly instrumental album.

My music in July

I'm really enjoying the Orchestre Baobab "Specialist in all styles" album. It's only 9 songs, so it mostly doesn't show in my weekly lists, but I've streamed it several times this month and it's really good. I think it's a bit expensive on VMP, so I probably will pick up the regular version on vinyl in September, unless it sticks around long enough at VMP to hit swaps or sales. 💜

Yeah and I've listened to a lot Kanye, Lana and Sharon this month. 😍

Predominantly a female-driven week, with a focus on electronic-infused pop, one form or another. Still obsessed with Lianne La Havas's self-titled release. Found out about Jessy Lanza from her feature on the amazing "Second Chance" from Caribou's Our Love, and tried her newest record out thanks to those in the Pre-Order thread...very enjoyable! Her voice is quite cute and distinctive. YUKIKA is a Japanese-born singer based in South Korea, and her debut album SOUL LADY is a traditional city pop album with vintage flair, but sung in Korean (with some English interspersed here and there). Kind of an interesting take on the genre; obviously won't be for everyone, but I'm a sucker for the city pop style...once you enjoy one artist in the genre, it snowballs quickly. Lastly, the new Julianna Barwick is heavenly. A solid example of how vocals are an underused component in ambient music and can enhance the experience, similar to Grouper and Ana Roxanne (also here).
