Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

What's going on with India? Anyone know? I'm quite surprised by their low numbers. Their population is huge and there is a large stratification of wealth there.

Looks like they are early in their curve compared to most other countries. Not sure if it started to spread there a little later, or they simply are not testing. I would not make the assumption that they are managing this any better than the rest of us.

Same in many Sub-Saharan African countries. The worst is yet to come for these regions.
Yes, I fear that too. Not that we treat our lower income any better, but I am thinking of all of the high population/low income villages and slums in the country. The virus is going to decimate those areas. Which kinda prompted my question. Are they just not reporting data? Or are they lying about their data? Or has it honestly not started in those regions yet?

I don't know but just guessing lack of testing, lack of access to medical care, etc.

Given the number of asymptomatic cases that keep coming up... I think Iceland reported that more than half of their positive tests there were no symptoms, it's safe to assume that many many more people are carriers than we can document

A few days on the radio they said the main African countries with Covid-19 reported cases are the "richer", basically the countries more open to other countries, that make business with China for example. There were very isolated cases in poorer countries as well, in some there are only one hospital and no equipment to deal with the virus.

Yes this, at this point we all are potential infected. I took my son to the pediatrician and she told us that she consider that all children who go to school are infected. That's why it's important to keep them at home with us and don't take them at their grandparents' house. She also told us that she was facing an anormal number of asthma cases these last weeks.

What might be the saving grace for many of those countries is the fact that their median age is less than 20. Hopefully that means they will see a much lower percentage of severe symptoms.

At this point I have still been going to work everyday. We are a non-essential business for the most part (fire protection contractor) but haven't been instructed to stay home. I don't deal with the general public, it's just the same 20 or so people in my office and shop everyday so I feel mostly ok about being here. And honestly, I don't mind...it's my only social outlet, a good distraction, and I'm not having to use my vacation/PTO time yet. I am hearing Michigan will be closing everything non-essential soon, but it's all just speculation at this point.

Meanwhile, I haven't seen my bandmates in over three weeks, and while we haven't gotten official word of our April, May and June gigs being cancelled, I tend to think they are. I feel bad for the musicians who rely on the gig money to pay their rent. (among many others of course)

Thought this was a good graphic:

Yep, this is what I figured and we are going to keep getting worse because half of America thinks this is no big deal. There is no way we can echo the response of Asian countries given how cavalier we've been over the last week.

I'm not sure what their trajectory will look like. Their demographics skew younger than ours which helps.

One factor may be: how often do people from [village A] come into contact with people from [village B]?

Of course the world as a whole is much more interconnected now, but I may take longer for COVID-19 to reach countries/regions/cities where fewer people are traveling in and out. People who are very low-income are generally not taking cruises and airplane rides.

The entire state of California will go into a shelter in place order at 12:00am tonight local time.
NY is most likely going to do this as well. I saw an article yesterday that said they are going to decide in the next 48 hours, and seeing a headline like this makes me think it's inevitable:

N.Y. Has Over 40 Percent of U.S. Coronavirus Cases: Live Updates

wish it wasn't a NYT article so everyone could read it without jumping through hoops... seems like now would be a nice time to for them to just make all the articles, especially relating to Coronavirus, free to the public.
