Fresh Grabs

Guestroom Records in Oklahoma City. I asked them about it and they said they pretty much bought all the stock after pre-orders were done from the label. They had a lot of copies on the shelves.

Guestroom Records has helped sell the bands material locally for a long time now.
Thanks! Maybe I will give them a call.

In all my years, I never thought I'd own a copy of this.
It's the most expensive record I ever bought. It came out in '94 and it was still sealed. You know I had to open it, because vinyl is meant to be heard. 🎶

The Refreshmints - "Lo, Our Much Praised Yet Not Altogether Satisfactory Lady" 10' vinyl
#IYKYK

Watch, now that I'm paid big money for it, it'll get reissued. Lol 😰

Sun Ra - Jazz By Sun Ra Vol. 1 (Transition, 2025 SAM Records Artisan Limited Pressing)
Sun Ra - Jazz By Sun Ra Vol. 2 (Transition, 2025 SAM Records Artisan Limited Pressing)

I am sure these will get shared a fair amount on various socials over the next few weeks as lots of people have been getting excited over them. I haven't listened to them yet but the physical quality is outstanding, with screen-printed covers, replica booklets, and hand-numbered to 500 copies each. I got no. 008/500 on each!

Ray Bryant Trio – Piano Piano Piano Piano... (Prestige, 1984 Signed Japanese Pressing)
Donald Byrd - Byrd Jazz (Transition/Esquire, 1957 First UK Pressing)
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady (Impulse! Records, 2021 Acoustic Sounds Pressing)
Joe Harriott - Journey (Moonlight Tunes, 2011 First Pressing)

An exciting mixed bunch of records. I can't believe I "won" the Bryant (signed by the man himself) for around a tenner on eBay this week! The Byrd is one that I have as a Japanese pressing but this first UK pressing was too tempting to pass on, and it sounds fantastic. The Mingus was a cheap buy which I lucked out on. Finally, a bootleg live performance by Joe Harriott!

Dizzy Reece - Progress Report (Tempo Records, 2008 Japanese Atelier Sawano Pressing)
The Dick Morrissey Quartet - It's Morrissey, Man! (Fontana Records, 1961First Mono Pressing)
Robin Jones Quartet - Eye Of The Hurricane: Live At The Bull's Head, Barnes (Spotlite Records, 1982 First Pressing)
Rock Workshop - The Very Last Time (CBS, 1971 First Pressing)
Jimmy Deuchar, Tubby Hayes & Derek Humble – Swingin' In Studio Two (Tempo Records, 1958 First 7" Pressing)

It pains me a bit to get this Japanese reissue of the Reece album as last year I won the insanely rare first pressing for just £60, but the seller refused to send it (first stating they lost the receipt on the same day as posting, then saying it must have been lost in the post). Still, it seems tricky to find this Japanese pressing outside of Japan and I'm sure it will be a good alternative. My luck continued when I found the rare Dick Morrissey album (my second copy) for just £10 including postage! The Deuchar/Hayes/Humble EP is super tricky to find and has a killer couple of tracks. Finally, a couple of cheap buys with some killer British jazz.

Joe Harriott - Personal Portrait (Columbia, 1968 First Stereo Pressing)
Mike Westbrook Concert Band - Release (Deram, 1968 First Mono Pressing)
The Mike Westbrook Concert Band - Marching Song Vol. 2 (Deram, 1969 First Stereo Pressing)
Harold Ashby & Paul Gonsalves - Two From Duke (Columbia, 1961 First Mono Pressing)
Thelonious Monk - Thelonious Monk Plays The Music Of Duke Ellington (Riverside/London Records, 1956 First Test Pressing)

An auction job lot of British jazz albums. All fantastic stuff! I will keep the ones I don't have and likely trade/sell the duplicates to offset the cost a bit.

I love that he matched numbers on the Sun Ras for those who bought both. Huge premium price but it has every little touch to show you how much care went into it. I almost hate to open them with how much they each feel like a work of art.

I've never spent that much on two records, but I'd take a product that has this personal level of attention, which can only come from someone who loves the craft, and the trust that builds with his customers any day over a One Step package. And no big ass box taking up space!
