Definitive Audiophile pressings

Lutthans is excellent. He was supposed to do this series (I assume he was still working at Cohearant at the time) but then Chad stole him and has him working out of Salina at The Mastering Lab. Last I heard, Rhino was working out logistics of getting him tapes to cut there, so Bellman stepped in for the first two batches or so. Lutthans is excellent though. IMO maybe even better than Bellman. He does all the Prestige Bluesville titles.
Matt's cutting with Doug Sax tube console.
It's sounding excellent on everything so far.

Bernie previously said he doesn't cut the higher multi-track recordings on his tube console due to limitations. I wondered if Matt could be facing similar challenges?

It was pretty spotty availability in the beginning in the US. Seems to be more consistent stock on the first two titles now. Everyone was panick buying thinking it was limited but looks to be regular stock going forward.
If you mean reserves, I think that was a combination of it selling through initial order and initial order being a little light… Otis is miles and a way the highest profile thing in the series so far.

Yes I am speaking to the Reserves.

IDK man. Many people already have Otis box and are saying pass. I don't have any of these titles but will wait for feedback before jumping in.

I appreciate the series and want it to grow. It's a very cool addition to the rhino lineup.

Keep in mind that the forum folks aren’t the only people buying these. The price point will get a bunch of people in the door too.

I’m mostly saying none of the other titles will draw that kind of attention. I’m in for Meters, out for Huey, will wait and see in Otis, if it’s stereo and knocks folks socks off, I’ll grab it. If it’s mono, I’m good.

Maybe. I think vinyl sales are unpredictable these days. People want different that hasn't been reissued recently, which can be a hard spot to pinpoint.

Even rare Miles Davis cuts don't move the needle lately. Maybe jazz has just hit the flood zone altogether.

That’s my only issue with this three, is that none of them are rare or hard to find and all have had quality reissues in the past few years. I may be in on the Otis, but I’m happy with my copies of the other two.

Jazz has definitely hit the flood zone. It’s a great time to be into jazz for sure, but for the casuals like myself there’s almost too much. I just gloss over most jazz reissues these days as I have more jazz than I think I will ever listen to.

I love jazz and will spend the rest of my time playing it. But I can appreciate pumping the brakes and cutting some other genres for awhile. Rhino is hot and cold each month. Maybe it will motivate Sony to get off the fence. But don't hold your breath.
