Definitive Audiophile pressings

How's that new Siamese Dream jacket? Is it thick stock or just the cheapy thin stuff?
It isn’t supposed to come out until next week but my local put it out early. I asked em if it was early and he said it was but he wasn’t gonna hold it back for a week as he thought it was kinda dumb as he still has some with the shiny cover in stock and the shiny cover retailed for $5 more.

The shiny cover is tip-on and the new one is on the thicker side but is a standard print cover. Both are gatefolds with the same inner art but the shiny came with printed inner sleeves with lyrics while the new version is generic (but poly-lined) white paper sleeves.

Poly. That's nice. I'd take that any day. Same plates though I think between the two.

Gen Z Nardwuar fans shitting on Sonic Youth because they were mean to him one time before most of them were born has really turned me off to that guy.
GenZ is bringing back Jnco jeans. Dont tell me you are gonna throw your Jncos away too!
Also looks like it is a new pressing. The Shiny copy were pressed at Rainbo these appear to be pressed at MRP (MRP is the first part of the stamped runout).
Thanks for checking. The Shiny copy was pressed at MRP too when they did the repress of the reissue, after Rainbo closed. They probably wanted to find the cheapest plant available, MRP was next in line.

Alright, let me A/B the two different pressings, comparing side A’s.

This new version sounds pretty good an occasional pop and I had to crank it a little bit but overall it sounds like it should. Not revelatory, but nothing distracting or annoying about it.

The shiny pressing is a bit louder but not loud enough that I felt like I needed to turn it down.
It has a bit of a crackle to during the intro to “Today” whereas the new copy was a bit quiter throughout.

Audibly I would be splitting hairs rating one above the other. They both sound good and there probably isn’t enough gains between one or the other to worry too much about it. The Shiny packaging is more deluxe and if it had the original album artwork there would probably be no need to buy the new copy.

I hated JNCO jeans. I thought they were clown pants in high school. Only the Marilyn Manson goth kids and raver kids wore JNCO. The skaters wore baggie Dickies with leather braided belts to cinch them tight. The preppy kids wore Tommy Hilfiger carpenter jeans with Doc Martens.

I will laugh at the Gen Z clown pants now same as I did then. Have fun soaking up dirty mud puddles getting your pant caught in escalators.

I feel like my parents probably felt the same way when bell bottoms became trendy in the 90s.

JNCO has become representative of the decade when in actuality most people were just wearing regular (albeit a bit baggier pants).

We lived in an area of Illinois that was at least 4-5 years behind in any sort of fashion trends. Stores there had new things that were old where we used to live in the St. Louis area.

JNCO was already out of fashion by the time I saw anyone wear them - and this was late 90's. My brother and I were some trend setters because we brought skateboarding and it's late 80's fashion to this small town. And they didn't know what to think. We were city kids dumped in rural Illinois.

I grew up in Pontiac, IL we had to drive 35 miles to Bloomington for culture.

Quincy was the closest "city" - but they were still years out of touch. For the first couple years my mom would drive us to the St. Louis suburbs to shop for back to school clothes.

By high school I was pretty much exclusive to whatever I could order from the JC Penny's Big & Tall catalog, so no driving necessary. Jeans and t-shirts/hoodies depending on the weather.
