Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk (signed)
One of the most loveable pop duos among gen-Z. From their YouTube livestreams, I can see why.
Day 27 - Spin any album from the 70’s, an artist who has been making music since then or any 7”
Leonard Cohen "Various Positions" (1984 Columbia)
Time to feature another undisputed Canadian icon - Leonard Cohen was making music in the 70's. Various Positions is the record where I feel Cohen starts to distinguish himself from being just another folky singer-songwriter into being, well, himself. It features two all-time Cohen classics in "Dance Me To The End Of Love" and "Hallelujah". The instrumentation is much more varied than on his previous albums and the storytelling is impeccable throughout. An essential record in the Canadian pantheon.
Day 24 - Merch match day! Spin any artist and post a photo of the record with a piece of band merch that you own (t-shirt, cups, poster, program etc)
Circuit Des Yeux - -io (signed)
Haley Fohr has one of the most beguiling voices in the underground, and has been shape shifting her around throughout the years while retaining her unique, deep, enchanting baritone register. She opts for a neoclassical sound on 2021's -io.
Looking forward to seeing Haley perform in Portland again on Wednesday.
Day 25 - New release Friday! Spin any record released today, this month or early this year.
Ichiko Aoba (青葉市子) - Luminescent Creatures
One of this year's best, another entry into Aoba-san's catalogue of gentle guitar work paired with her pure, dreamy vocal timbre. Luminescent Creatures sees her continuing in the vein of Windswept Adan from four and a half years past, with both records featuring more lush production (orchestral, ambient synthesis) than anything from past. I thought about purchasing a Japanese press while on vacation, but ended up waiting to see if any gatefold deluxe copies would be available for merch tour sales. Well...I'm glad I waited.
Both of her live performances in Portland are some of my favorite concerts I've ever seen in my life.
Day 26 - Sleeve face day! If you’re willing to, post a sleeve face or spin any record that has a face on its cover.
Seiko Matsuda (松田聖子) - Squall
It's idol time
Not exactly the easiest record of hers to find in person, even in Japan. However, I stumbled across this OG copy this year for ¥480 (~$3.30 USD) on my last full day in excellent shape. Ballads and AOR aplenty, yes, but the key tracks "サンバの香り" and "青い珊瑚礁" will be useful for future city pop DJ sets
Day 27 - Spin any album from the 70’s, an artist who has been making music since then or any 7”
Taeko Ohnuki (大貫妙子) - Grey Skies
Debut record released in 1976. City pop? Yes, somewhat. I'd define it more in the vein of jazz-pop and kayokyoku (歌謡曲; popular music from the Showa era). The very last record I bought on the day I returned home this year; this new reissue was discounted 10% at Face Records.

Rosalía - El mal querer
Going digital today because I just ran a marathon and flipping a record across the room is too much work. I think I first came across Rosalía via one of her visually starting music videos on YouTube.
Damn, things got a bit hectic around here and I couldn't keep up with this month's challenge....
Cool prompts @threesunrises ! Curious to see what puzzle's answer is!
