Day 28 - Spin a
ny record that was gifted to you
The Weakerthans "Reconstruction Site" (2003 Epitaph; 2022 reissue)
This selection is to feature our fellow N&G member
@avecigrec , who has gifted me several records, including a Isaac Hayes, some Aesop Rock, and a Dirty South deluxe set, among others. I'm going to veer from playing those though, mainly because I want to keep up with my self-imposed Canadiana theme, to feature a record that was a gift in the sense of discovery.
Reconstruction Site was the album selected by
@avecigrec for his N&G album of the month a little while ago. While I was familiar with one of the tracks on the record, I had never heard the whole album. It's great! The Weakerthans come from Winnipeg, an origin they proudly wear on their song "One Great City". There are other excellent tracks as well, like "Plea From A Cat Named Virtue" which is from the point of view for a pet, the rocking "Our Great Explorer" and "Uncorrected Proof" and the alt-country track "A New Name For Everything". Anyway, being introduced to new music you eventually enjoy and throw into your spin rotation is a gift.
