Vinyl Me Please Anthology

There is no way its selling out this week then, right? People are not going to fall over themselves to buy this for 345 if they weren't at 265 or 295.

Its almost like they overshot it on the price. Everyone bitten by the FOMO bug has already bought it. Who is left?

Yep. 8 albums, all sound amazing and the packaging is WAY higher quality than what the BN Anthology 1 was. I will say though, that I think the Dylan in Mono box started out at $300 and has only recently dipped all the way down to $140 which seems to be the new price. Maybe we'll see the BN Anthology 2 on amazon for $140 in a few months??
FWIW, I bought it for $165 in 2013. Not sure what it started at.

Well, they're kinda damned if they do, damned if they don't. I like the slow release, I just wish they could do it without mishaps like Blue Note. I liked having the 2 albums to listen to over and over before the next set came in.

If the best solution is send them all together but asking me to wait, that's fine. It's up to me and at least I get them all without worries about the next set making it in a timely manner. If I want to honor the idea behind the set, I'm either free to do that or rip into each one to go straight to listening. It seems the concept of the Anthology was going to have detractors regardless of how they chose to do it.

The lack of title releases doesn't bother me that much. It's about taking a journey. I don't own any of these albums (based on the hints and sleuthing on here) and would have no plans to scour Discogs or Ebay to get them on my own to replicate the Anthology.

I guess I would have to be a very different person in terms of my musical taste to share this opinion. Historically for every album that is critically acclaimed that I also enjoy, there is one that I really don't get and don't want and vice-versa. It would seem like a miracle to me if someone picked 8 albums for me and I thought all of them were worth dropping $37 with no regrets. (Nevermind the fact that many of these albums are not really critically acclaimed outside of singles.)

If I didn't care at all about the money side, then I guess it wouldn't matter much, and space wouldn't be an issue in my mansion either, but unfortunately that is not the case.

I don't own many Motown records and probably would not go out of my way to buy them. I've never dived into Motown. So I'm fine with spending $265 to give it a shot. I did it with Blue Note and loved what they curated for me which has led me to get a lot more Blue Note records. I liked the box set aside from the few snafus. No different than flying blind with the Classics that have spurred me to get more albums from those artists.

I don't own a mansion, for the record. This is a splurge for me but I had a good experience on the last one.

The real issue with this set is the price, not the blind buy part of it, because if this was $200 for 8 Motown LPs, I doubt there would be as much consternation and it would have sold out last night. There would still be some criticism of course, but the biggest complaint about the blind purchase is it occurring at this price point.

A point of course that I do not expect VMP to address.

Completely agree. They may find they went way too high on this one.

Yeah, even if was $250 after the early bird $50 discount and $220 for the further discount (Blue Note Anthology buyers), I think it definitely would’ve sold out!

It’s just the high price tag + not revealing the albums. It’s already sold more than 750. If it was $50 cheaper, I think it would’ve sold out, and of course if they revealed which albums they’re pressing!

I'm sorry, please don't take that comment as me saying the only people who would buy this are people with mansions (or that there is anything wrong with not having to worry about money). That was just me joking about how I wish I didn't have to worry about money, because it is a big stressor in my life at the moment. I really am not trying to judge or shame anyone.

I also totally respect that you don't feel the same as me as how I described my musical taste. I was just relecting on how we differ. Sorry that it probably came off as critical to those who don't agree with me. I really would hate it if everyone was like me and cynical about stuff like this. The positivity is a good thing as well.
