  • This new Netflix docu-series on The Zodiac Killer is fascinating.

I'm gonna have to watch that whenever I next sub to netflix (waiting for Stranger Things 5) - but I never thought it was anyone other than Arthur Leigh Allen - even before I watched Fincher's movie.

It’s the perspective you get from this series that makes it so interesting. While still circumstantial in nature, it connects a lot of dots.
AMC running a marathon of the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies as part of their annual FearFest programming, but opting to show them in reverse order, is peak AMC.

No, it’s been running all day today. They’re on 2 now, the original will follow, and then the remake…because AMC. Tomorrow they are doing Friday the 13th, and they are going 4-Jason Goes to Hell, and then 1-3. It’s such a struggle for them.

Are they edited tho? I don’t have cable anymore so unsure how non-streamers are displaying content these days.

AMC is edited for content. Sundance also shows edited versions, as does BBC America. IFC used to be the one that didn't show edited films.
Revisited Julieta Venegas’ MTV Unplugged performance last night. It has been a few years since I’ve watched it. For me, it is easily the best Unplugged episode. Nirvana’s performance is iconic, and certainly more people have seen that one. But I still give the blue ribbon to Venegas…and I don’t even speak Spanish. It’s that good.

I haven't seen Julieta's unplugged I think, but along with the best are Soda Stereo's "Comfort y musica para volar" and Cafe Tacvba's first unplugged. The second one is just wrong in my ears, some good versions of songs there but overall I think it's pretty bad.

I'll check the Julieta unplugged though!

Seconding Soda Stereo. And for nostalgia: Shakira, Mana, and La Ley since we're throwing around MTV-Latin America Unplugged performances.

Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots take the podium with Nirvana.
Enjoying this new Suki Waterhouse record quite a bit, although I feel like it could have been even stronger had it been sequenced differently, OR if it was trimmed by a few songs. Things slow down quite a bit towards the end.

I haven’t listened to it yet, it’s on the list, but I feel this is something that could be said about at least 75% of new albums.

Interesting. I feel like so many albums of late are almost too short. LPs that are running 35 minutes or so that I’m expected to pay $35 for. This one is about 53 minutes or so, and it closes with about 3 slower tempo songs in a row. Still dig it tho.

Yeah, the price is one thing, but making a record is an art, right. Like you have 40-50 minutes for a good to decent sounding single slab. You need to think of how it flows, which song is the end of side one, which one starts side 2 and does it flow by side as well.

Over the past few years, I’ve purchased a handful of two-fers on CD from the BGO label. It’s a label out of Great Britain, but something is up with their liner notes. Not sure if they are AI generated, or translated from some other language, but they are always a hot mess.
Kind of blown away at how tight X sounds on their new/last album. If someone just played that for me I would have assumed it was a lost record from the early 80s.

Same! Tbh I didn’t listen to their last album. I’m not usually excited about new albums from old school rockers. Hit play on the first track of this new one expecting to skip through it and ended up hooked by the first song.

@dirty hands The previous record is pretty high octane, but I thought it was pretty strong too. It has a short running time, so it gets in and does its job very quickly. Doesn’t overstay its welcome.
I often forget just how many hits John Mellencamp racked up in the 80s and 90s. He was all over MTV when they played videos, but he isn’t usually mentioned alongside MJ, Prince, Madonna or Springsteen from that same era.
Always enjoyed Cat Power’s “Sun” a lot, but a recent revisit of that record has me borderline obsessed with it. It’s really hitting the spot right now for some reason.
Found out I’m losing my job in 2 months. Totally numb.
Man, you guys weren’t kidding about the RSD prices. Picked up a couple of things, but not as many as I would have. I saw that Sweetheart of the Rodeo show live, so those memories will have to suffice.

Maybe someone will have a deal on leftovers and you can grab it cheaper

It’s cool. Probably not something I would throw on often. It was a great show though. But that 2 LP set probably costs about the same as the ticket I paid to see it live, which is crazy.

Record Store Day 2024, UT Spring Game, and 4/20 all on one day. Seems like today has a little something to offer for just about everyone in Austin.

3rd stringer looked really good from what I saw. But, it’s hard for me to really gauge things when a team is playing itself in an exhibition game. Hopefully the recruits on hand had a good time and liked what they saw.
