Considering the new Julien Baker/TORRES collaboration, if boygenius ever reconvenes, they should add TORRES as a member the way Crosby, Stills & Nash added Young.
Alamo Drafthouse may not be what it once was, but I do still enjoy when they show older movies as part of a theme. As part of their 1974 theme, I was able to catch both “Foxy Brown” & the original “Black Christmas” on the big screen, which is pretty rad.
I was passing through my room and I quickly glanced at the tv which had an ad promoting Panera’s “Ciabatta Dippers”. However, in that quick glance, I thought it said “Ciabatta Diapers”. So, if anyone needs a name for their garage band…you’re welcome.
I love when an album clicks for me after multiple attempts spread across an extended period of time. I consider myself a Sonic Youth fan, but for some reason I’ve never been able to fully embrace “Daydream Nation. Until today. Not sure what the issue was, but I’m glad I’m officially over it.
AMC running a marathon of the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies as part of their annual FearFest programming, but opting to show them in reverse order, is peak AMC.
Always thought it was cool that Kris Kristofferson wrote a song in the style of John Prine as a way of saying thanks to Prine for being an inspiration.
Revisited Julieta Venegas’ MTV Unplugged performance last night. It has been a few years since I’ve watched it. For me, it is easily the best Unplugged episode. Nirvana’s performance is iconic, and certainly more people have seen that one. But I still give the blue ribbon to Venegas…and I don’t even speak Spanish. It’s that good.
Enjoying this new Suki Waterhouse record quite a bit, although I feel like it could have been even stronger had it been sequenced differently, OR if it was trimmed by a few songs. Things slow down quite a bit towards the end.
Over the past few years, I’ve purchased a handful of two-fers on CD from the BGO label. It’s a label out of Great Britain, but something is up with their liner notes. Not sure if they are AI generated, or translated from some other language, but they are always a hot mess.
In recent years I’ve posted a lot on this forum about Austin’s Moving Panoramas. Lead singer and songwriter Leslie Sisson was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and the band has created a Go Fund Me to help raise some funds for medical bills. Please consider donating if you are able. Donate to Help Leslie Beat Cancer, organized by Moving Panoramas
Kind of blown away at how tight X sounds on their new/last album. If someone just played that for me I would have assumed it was a lost record from the early 80s.
I often forget just how many hits John Mellencamp racked up in the 80s and 90s. He was all over MTV when they played videos, but he isn’t usually mentioned alongside MJ, Prince, Madonna or Springsteen from that same era.
“McLemore Avenue” has been in heavy rotation after watching that Stax documentary on Max. Such a cool album that sounds particularly good on these long, hot, summer days and nights.
