  • It happens every year. I’m kicking myself for not listening to Mary Timony’s release from 2024 in time to include in my year end list. No shade to the Kim Deal album because I really like that record too, but the sound of “Untame the Tiger” is closer to what I was expecting on “Nobody Loves You More”. Both are great listens.
Digging the new Bob Mould song. The sound hearkens back to his classic early solo sound. It's not as dark as most of the stuff on "Black Sheets of Rain", but it also isn't as acoustic leaning as much of "Workbook". It's sort of in between the sound of those two records, but it also wouldn't sound entirely out of place on either album.

Just saw "A Complete Unknown". Like a lot of Dylan fans, I was initially put off by the choice of Timothée Chalamet to play Bob. I started to come around whenever I saw the final film trailer. I thought the movie was actually good for a music biopic. Good that they only focused on that 4 year window. A few things that I wish they hadn't done, but, overall I enjoyed it. And Chalamet did his homework.
I just beat my Aunt at Five Crowns by a single point. She could probably play Five Crowns professionally. Seriously. She’s a master, and she’s cutthroat too. King Kong ain’t got shit on me!
Considering the new Julien Baker/TORRES collaboration, if boygenius ever reconvenes, they should add TORRES as a member the way Crosby, Stills & Nash added Young.
Alamo Drafthouse may not be what it once was, but I do still enjoy when they show older movies as part of a theme. As part of their 1974 theme, I was able to catch both “Foxy Brown” & the original “Black Christmas” on the big screen, which is pretty rad.

Here in Dallas, they only show repertoire movies in the smallest theaters and at odd times. They usually sell out well in advance too. I wish they would push them to some of the mid-sized screens and I would consume them more. Do you have the Season Pass?

No. I live within walking distance of the Lakeline location here in north Austin. “Foxy Brown” was in the middle of the day in the middle of last week, and “Black Christmas” was late last night. So, I hear ya.

Bummed I’m gonna be out of town for my local Alamo’s rep screening of The Apartment on NYE. :(
I was passing through my room and I quickly glanced at the tv which had an ad promoting Panera’s “Ciabatta Dippers”. However, in that quick glance, I thought it said “Ciabatta Diapers”. So, if anyone needs a name for their garage band…you’re welcome.
I love when an album clicks for me after multiple attempts spread across an extended period of time. I consider myself a Sonic Youth fan, but for some reason I’ve never been able to fully embrace “Daydream Nation. Until today. Not sure what the issue was, but I’m glad I’m officially over it.
This new Netflix docu-series on The Zodiac Killer is fascinating.

I'm gonna have to watch that whenever I next sub to netflix (waiting for Stranger Things 5) - but I never thought it was anyone other than Arthur Leigh Allen - even before I watched Fincher's movie.

It’s the perspective you get from this series that makes it so interesting. While still circumstantial in nature, it connects a lot of dots.
AMC running a marathon of the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies as part of their annual FearFest programming, but opting to show them in reverse order, is peak AMC.

No, it’s been running all day today. They’re on 2 now, the original will follow, and then the remake…because AMC. Tomorrow they are doing Friday the 13th, and they are going 4-Jason Goes to Hell, and then 1-3. It’s such a struggle for them.

Are they edited tho? I don’t have cable anymore so unsure how non-streamers are displaying content these days.

AMC is edited for content. Sundance also shows edited versions, as does BBC America. IFC used to be the one that didn't show edited films.
Revisited Julieta Venegas’ MTV Unplugged performance last night. It has been a few years since I’ve watched it. For me, it is easily the best Unplugged episode. Nirvana’s performance is iconic, and certainly more people have seen that one. But I still give the blue ribbon to Venegas…and I don’t even speak Spanish. It’s that good.

I haven't seen Julieta's unplugged I think, but along with the best are Soda Stereo's "Comfort y musica para volar" and Cafe Tacvba's first unplugged. The second one is just wrong in my ears, some good versions of songs there but overall I think it's pretty bad.

I'll check the Julieta unplugged though!

Seconding Soda Stereo. And for nostalgia: Shakira, Mana, and La Ley since we're throwing around MTV-Latin America Unplugged performances.

Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots take the podium with Nirvana.
Enjoying this new Suki Waterhouse record quite a bit, although I feel like it could have been even stronger had it been sequenced differently, OR if it was trimmed by a few songs. Things slow down quite a bit towards the end.

I haven’t listened to it yet, it’s on the list, but I feel this is something that could be said about at least 75% of new albums.

Interesting. I feel like so many albums of late are almost too short. LPs that are running 35 minutes or so that I’m expected to pay $35 for. This one is about 53 minutes or so, and it closes with about 3 slower tempo songs in a row. Still dig it tho.

Yeah, the price is one thing, but making a record is an art, right. Like you have 40-50 minutes for a good to decent sounding single slab. You need to think of how it flows, which song is the end of side one, which one starts side 2 and does it flow by side as well.
