If my shortlist goes unchanged over the next couple/few days then 3 of my top 4 albums of the year were gifted to me -- 1 by my wife and 2 by members of this forum! -- the other album has not (yet) been pressed on vinyl.
The 4-year-old's chosen soundtrack for the drive back to Mom's this week was Gillian Welch's Time (The Revelator) and Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss. Makes me feel like I've done something right!
Just learned that Stó:lō poet, author and teacher Lee Maracle has passed at age 71.
She was a powerhouse and an absolute treasure. We are richer for the time, energy, wisdom and words she gave while here.

First year my parenting time with the 4-year-old has landed on Halloween, so my first time out trick-or-treating since around 1992 and I had such a blast. It was the newborn's first time out too, but they slept through it entirely!
Some magnificent decorations, costumes and characters. And so many families. I've become less and less a fan of people over the years, but this was really fun!
Often I'll go months, even years at times, without listening to this and then I'll have nights like tonight where I have to play it over and over again...
Woke up this morning to my phone having somehow used up 40% of its battery and my laptop having changed its timezone. After an intense couple of days and with a thoroughly over-occupied brainspace, I can't help but think maybe my devices have started openly mocking me.
