  • That Phish box set looks like an incredible place to start for me (a person who has a mixed history with the band but wants to try to like them). However, it's $500 for a gamble like that. Soooo, can anyone point me in the direction of a quintessential Phish show for someone who hasn't always loved what he's heard, but enjoys jam band music?

If you’re looking for the best show to stream or download, I’d just search the Phish Reddits as they usually have extensive guides. I’m only familiar with their main live album releases, not the VERY extensive catalog of unofficial / boots etc.

@scotthilk Yeah I was thinking for one to just find easily to stream or on youtube or something. I've realized getting their live stuff on vinyl is not super easy or cheap so that's out for now

@oldschoolkirby I have heard bits of that show and actually it was weirdly how got into Talking Heads. I heard them doing Crosseyed and Painless and it was the first time I really enjoyed Phish - and it led me right into becoming a fan of Talking Heads.
Haim ticket acquired! 5.5 months to go…
Got my copy of Courtney Barnett's newest album, but cannot remember what variant it is. I bought it direct from the store on her site (they used ambient inks). No indication on shrink wrap, and no help really on discogs. Anyone know? They're all just shades of blue!
Got tickets for Jason Isbell finally! He's playing locally in January. I'm used to doing GA standing room shows, but this time I went for seated center balcony. Should be nice.
As someone who has had the new Snail Mail album for a couple of days now...don't forget to give it a listen when it drops tomorrow. It's very, very good. Might not get all the hype of her debut, but it's potentially even better than it.
JK about my status last weekend about the Jetta purchase. Long story short, car dealers are the worst. But I am in the process of buying a different car now, and it’s been smoother already. (This one is a Prius!)
I signed back up for dumb dumb VMP for Veckatimest. And I'm listening to it now. And it sounds incredible. Love this record so much and they actually nailed it. ...now off to cancel again.
I bought a car today. And as expected the experience lives up to the sleazy car salesperson stereotype. But hey, it's all okay. I don't have the car yet, but I will this week. What a stressful, horrible experience it is buying a car though.
bought a ticket to Faye Webster's live stream for her homecoming show in ATL. Couldn't watch it live, so I planned on doing it over the weekend. Promptly forgot and now it's unavailable to stream. WELP
The best part of my new job is having an entire classroom to myself to design how I want, with lesson plans that align with much more openness and inclusivity. The worst part is I can't do any of that yet cause of other center-wide issues. Still waiting to be able to dive all in on creating a new atmosphere in the classroom. I think I'll be better off here, but it is still kinda difficult letting go of my old job.

Fellow teacher here! What's your classroom situation like?

I work with pre-school aged children. So originally I was in the 2 year old room, but now in the 3 year old room. It's a much better fit. We do creative curriculum, so basically anything I want to do for lesson plans is up to me. And I have a co-teacher who has a similar feeling about how to lead a classroom. I'm assuming you are in a more school aged classroom?
1 week left at the job I've been at for 8 years. People seem so confused as to why I'm leaving. ...I've been wanting to leave for years! I guess I hide that well on the job. Definitely still bittersweet though. It's going to be hard to say goodbye to the kids in my classroom.
question: am I worrying way too much about getting covid at a small music fest (moon river)? or should I just take a potential hit and sell my pass now?
Finally got The Long Goodbye on vinyl, and good lord it's amazing. Reliving that show again (streamed it live, wasn't there) is a blast. But why are the sides of the vinyl so weird (disc 1 is side A and C, disc 2 side B and D, etc)?

oh hey funny story my Popmarket preorder is on backorder even though every other store on god's earth got theirs lol. also @Bennnnn that's how all double albums used to be. It's from the old DJ and automatic turntable days

Old school disc changer set up. Automatic turntables in the 70s had a mechanism that allowed you to stack the b side up so when the first side finished and the tone arm moved it would drop the second record down

Oh right, I do remember now that I have a Who album...I wanna say it's Quadrophenia...that's set up this way.
Is Laura Marling one of the best modern singer/songwriters? Yes. Absolutely yes. I've been revisiting all of her albums recently, and no matter how many times I have heard them, they still can pack so many punches. Her voice, melodies, guitar playing, and of course the lyrics just rule. That said, for whatever reason I have never checked out her side project, LUMP.
Well…now they are going to be installing cameras at my work with audio and video, and yeah this is when I think I’m officially done here. To me it only stows more untrustworthiness of the bosses and will only be used against all of us for petty issues. (I work as a teacher in a toddler classroom). Also I don’t like being recorded while trying to have a stress-free day at a stressful job.
