Some time to relax on this 4-day weekend coincides with my deep thinking for my best songs of 2021 in the competition with some friends (bracket style) for song of the year. So one stress replaced with another; this one seems much more important …
Tuesday around this time is insane for show announcements - within minutes of each other I learn about spring shows in Philly by Perfume Genius, The Antlers and Sampa the Great, wow!
leaks are saying we'll get an announcement about a new Beach House album, which will be released Feb 18th. leaks, so can't confirm just yet. very very exciting if this is true.
I finally got my hands on Grouper's AIA : Alien Observer when it was restocked. The pressing is immaculate. Which is crucial for quiet music like this. Very happy.
Parannoul fans. They just posted for the first time ever on insta that a new album is dropping on October 22. It includes 4 Parannoul tracks and 6 songs by other artists, not sure if it's a collaboration album or compilation. Very exciting.
Saw Yo La Tengo last night for maybe the 5th time. No opener, they did an hour+ "quiet" set, followed by an intermission, then an hour'ish "loud" set. This is how they should always do it. So good.
Holy sheeet - Little Simz show announced in Philly is at a really small venue in May. I'm betting it gets moved somewhere larger, but also excited about the idea of seeing this superstar at a tiny spot.
I love albums with that last track payoff. This new Low album just pulverized me in the best possible way with "The Price You Pay (It Must Be Wearing Off)" to close it out.
First indoor concert since March 2020 is tonight. Mdou Moctar is gonna shred, and I'm just hoping I don't combust from so much pent up excitement for live music.
