  • One thing I've learned while binging old SNL these past few months: people overrate the shit out of Norm McDonald. For every sharp, funny update joke, theres 2 absolutely disgusting sexist ones coming right up. Not a fan.

Post-Norm Weekend Update, the best of the bunch was Tina Fey and Amy Poehler followed closely by Poehler and Seth Meyers. Jimmy Fallon was (and still is) kinda bad at comedy. I think he gets by in being charming but it seems like that veneer has begun to peel as of late.

Jost and Che have developed a nice rapport that translates nicely to the update desk but that took awhile to develop. Curious to see who inherits the anchors chair next.

Yeah I agree with almost everything you’ve said. Having recently watched the entire Dennis Miller era, it’s crazy to me that he’s the way he is now. He makes such funny, poignant criticisms of the Reagan administration that should just ring so much more true now, it’s just mind boggling that he’s “flipped sides”. Dude was a damn good WU anchor and I understand why many consider him the best
If you're in the LA area, I implore you to never use George Meyer AV for your audio repair services. See my past posts for details.

I used them to repair a vintage receiver with no issues but I just dropped off and picked up because I’m in town.
Disabled adblocker on youtube (after they basically forced me me to), and the first ad I get is the trailer for an anti-Trans propaganda/hate film. Like cmon Youtube, don't pull a Twitter.
    Jai Paul's such a joke.

I do love that album... is this because he pressed more variants of his record?

Dude's ridden the success of a leaked demo (that very may well have been leaked by his own camp) for a decade somehow. Keep seeing him popping up in the news riding those coattails. It's an unfinished demo man..... There's so many artists out there actually making music, but people are really clinging onto that 2013 music culture.

it was a very influential album and the album is excellent even if it's just demos. the guy had a breakdown and retreated from public life entirely because of the leak for nearly a decade. he's being written about because he started performing live for the first time this year.
What's happening with Crateism? With my amp in the shop for months I havent been following all the drama. Did they just not ship all the records from that big sale?

I don’t get what any of their thinking was with any of it. Why have a 2nd sale if they didn’t even have enough records or help to mail the records from the first sale out? They sent two of my 4 boxes separately and the cost of shipping them separately was more than what I paid for the records.

@MikeH We can only speculate at this point, but to me this seems like a small business owner who went in way over her head, doesn't know the logistics of running an online vinyl store, and pulled increasingly stupid stunts to try and get out of the hole she got into. Now she's bottoming out.

I'd give my left nut to be able to see Sonic Youth live. Discovered them right as they broke up and they almost instantly became my favorite band. It'll probably never happen....
Do Cardi B, Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj (when she does Hip Hop/not pop) sound musically identical or am I just getting old?

It is my understanding that Ice is Nicki's protegé. So it makes sense that they have similar musical sensibilities. But I don't listen to them enough to make a correct assesment.
Oh damn, we're getting Good Burger 2 this weekend. I am not prepared.

If you don’t have any nostalgia baked into it then it probably wouldn’t be worth the effort. Interested to see if they keep it as dumb as the first one or try to make it “good”

Yeah it’s not much different from any dumb cult classic comedy, it just connects with you if you watch it at a certain age. They really milked a lot of great spin off projects out of that All That cast.
Lynyrd Skynard is/was a racist band and I'm tired of people pretending they weren't.
Can we skip to the end and start eating the rich already?

I've been binging vintage SNL for the past few months; yesterday I saw that Rolling Stone list of every cast member ever ranked from awhile back(it's...not a great list). Someone talk me out of going through every single episode and making my own ranking chart. I want to have a life.

Are all episodes readily available to stream or watch somehow?
I missed a bunch in the 80s when I had no access to TV. There have always been bright and dull moments on that show from the beginning, it's the nature of a weekly live show.
One of my faves is when Jim Carrey hosted in 1996, when he plays Jimmy Stewart and imitates himself.

@djdavedk All episodes are on peacock, but for the majority of post-70's episodes have the musical guest removed, and ALL SKETCHES WITH A COPYRIGHTED SONG CUT, which is absolutely devastating for some episodes and periods. Not to mention some sketches are replaced with the dress rehearsal version if it went smoother.

@djdavedk Best place to watch episodes as they originally aired is through the Internet Archives or torrent sites like PassthePopcorn
When did podcasts go from something people recorded in their basements for fun (and no money), to something celebrity's record in professional studio with a production company and make enough profit to treat like a second job?
Wtf is with all these people vocally criticizing/mocking the SAG writers strike? Do they not watch movies or tv content? (hint: they do). Lots of “using this issue as an outlet for other frustrations” vibes.
I love anime, but maaan most anime fans online are the absolute worst....

@nolalady Smart. One Piece is the only Shonen series I kept following after age 15 or so, and the day it ends I'll throw in the towel.

yeah i got to admit a lot of the discussion around certain characters is incredibly uncomfortable.. even with series i like i got to think about "dont think about how weirdly sexualised this is and think about how this is accidentally queer as hell"
Iron Maiden is just showtunes for the Hard Rock/Metal crowd.
