I have been working through some issues with the change.
The RP-9 really didn't gel with my system.
After checking connections and hookups, I found some tubes in my other components were causing havoc on sound that the previous preamp didn't show.
The vintage GE 6550 tubes in the power amp...
Ok, then I am not sure if you pick up additional gain with the XLR connection coming out of a phono pre.
I know you do with a preamp but phono could act differently. Let us know what it sounds like when you can compare.
Super!
A nice preamp is invaluable.
Guitar strings are one area where sonics really changed for me. Cymbals became a lot more crisp also, if that even makes sense.
I must have lost it in the noise previously.
I'm digging the overall tube change now. It took some tweaking with my system, and I feel like I have more of that to go.
But admittedly my preamp change was for chasing the tape fidelity dragon.
Enjoy the new piece and looking forward to hearing...
Looks killer!
I recently upgraded to the Rogue RP-9 with the 6H30 tubes.
It's dramatically different than any sound I was accustomed to hearing.
In fact, it's taking me a few weeks to recalibrate my music listening.
I was away in Miami this week and when I returned last night I put some vinyl...
The one thing that seems difficult to pin down is amp gain.
It's not in the specs for most amps.
Therefore it comes down to math. Stupid, silly math for most to bother with...
I think my two amps are within a dB or two but it's difficult to know for sure.
There are some assumptions baked in.
