  • Love this new Gorillaz song! Really really solid, fun, funky track. Can't wait to see where the Song Machine leads!
This new Hayley Williams song though... I'm really struggling with it. The lyrics are solid and palpable, the video is cool as hell. But man, this production and instrumental is weak as hell imo. And these songs really aren't showing off her voice well.

I love Hayley. Paramore has evolved so seamlessly under her direction. But this solo project just isn't doing a thing for me, personally. I certainly respect her for doing her own thing, and for using music to cope with hard times in her life. That's what any great artist does. But I don't think this album is gonna be for me.

@Sanders I understand where you're coming from, provided your rock-centric tastes. I'm sensing she drew inspiration to a fair amount of In Rainbows era Radiohead. It's slightly downtempo, and the minimal instrumentation would be drowned out by her vocals of decades past.

The track is OK, in my opinion. I view it favorably to "Simmer." Unlikely to return to.

Gorillaz is good. Hayley is kinda just not interesting to me and doesn’t showcase her strong voice. I feel like this is what she wanted to make , but it’s just not working especially with paramore having evolved into such an interesting soundscape over the last 10 ish years. Her feature with B.o.B. Is more interesting to me lol

Looks like I might have to skip my yearly trip to Uprise Fest if I want to see My Chemical Romance this year
Crazy that Ariana and Taylor won nothing. Rock categories were a shame, really wanted BMTH to win a Grammy. Congrats to Cage the Elephant though. Tool's metal performance win was inevitable, and I respect it. Billie thoughhhh 💙
Against all odds, I only need one more System of a Down 7". Then, I will have every one that they've released.
This new Hayley Williams single? It's fine. That's all, really. It's fine. It's doing very little for me. But it's fine.

@gaporter I think my problem is, I'm not hearing much? The production feels too low-key to be impactful for me, especially with the incredible voice that is Hayley Williams. But idk. I need to give it a few more listens

It is a pretty low key song but there's a lot of drive to it imo. I dont think the song is intended to be a showcase for Hayley's voice and is more her trying to do different things and capture different moods than what she'd usually do within Paramore. I guess we'll see if this song is the vibe of the whole project as more singles come, but I'm into it so far personally

Underutilizes her voice, but my main issue is I think the lyrics are kinda garbage.

Feels like nice production masking unambitious songwriting.

edit: music hits everyone differently and Deerhoof is my favorite band, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

I can't stop listening to it, it's so freaking creative, blending pop and metal in this fashion usually doesn't go well, but this works SOOOOO well

@Teeeee Not at all. On the rare occasion I do, it's usually due to sound issues for perfectly good bands. In this case, it was just a complete lack of translation of what I loved about TBM to the stage. After two great openers, I just didn't care to sit through the rest unsatisfied.

@EvanBenner Well, I'll hope that won't be the case this time. Excited either way!

That was years and years ago, so don't let my long-past experience hamper your excitement! My current debate is if my faith in Julien-K alone is enough to pounce on tix for the other side of town. It's a long, late trek on public transit. Finally saw them a couple years back. They were a longtime bucket list band for me (since Death to Analog). Did not disappoint!

Fuck the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Judas Priest, Soundgarden, Motorhead and even Pat Benetar got snubbed. But The Notorious BIG and T-Rex get in?? Absolute bullshit. Even the fan vote winners, Dave Matthews Band, didn't get in (first time ever). What a damn joke.

Whitney Houston absolutely deserves to be in there. Absolutely. Everyone that was inducted does. They need to induct more per year, that's the problem. The pool of artists is too large to keep the inductees under 10 per year.

I would have voted T-Rex and BIG among the others. First is a glam rock legend and an influence to tons of other artists. Second is one of the very best rapper ever, if not the best, and is highly respected by all the other rappers.
