  • I can't decide what my favorite Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings album is. When Soul of A Woman came out I thought that was it, then thought it was just recency bias and gave the crown back to 100 Days, 100 Nights. Listening to both back to back today and still can't decide haha both are so good!
No new releases from this year have grabbed me and caused me to want to listen to them again and again. The only album on my year end list is Texas Sun and I've been listening to a bunch of favorites from the past 3-4 years. I feel like I'm forcing myself to listen to 2020 releases hoping something sticks. After 1 listen, I'm really hoping the new Monophonics album snaps me out of this 2020 funk!

Oh man, I've listened to Beach Bunny and Caroline Rose a bunch of times.

@Skalap I don't know Alabaster, but if his music is half as good as his name it's going to be great haha thanks, I'll check him out!

@kvetcha That Caroline Rose has been growing on me, that's one that I've been trying to listen to a little more. Haven't checked out Beach Bunny though so I'll have to change that, thanks!

@RowBearToe Beach Bunny is a thoroughly unpretentious pity-rock album that feels like it should have been released over the summer instead of in February. It's only 29 minutes long, so it's very easy to listen to repeatedly. It's not, like, an artistic triumph, but it really got in my head. Great driving record.
    Durand tonight!

I actually really like that place. Others feel differently. It is sit down. Get there as soon after doors open as you can because it is mostly first come, first sat. I don't think I can make it tonight. Have so much fun!

I think this show is actually in a different room than the seated shows are. The seated shows sounded pretty cool, but this is an a GA standing room only other room haha

Ah, gotcha! That's a smaller space. But very cool. You'll have fun!!!
When I listen to Lee Fields & The Expressions - Lover Man all I can hear is a specific hip hop beat but I can't find anything saying it was sampled by anyone. Anyone else hear something familiar in that guitar part at the 0:42 mark, or know where it's been sampled?

Does Nonesuch typically have any Black Friday deals? I know they had their 50% off sale earlier this year, but wasn't sure about BF.

I think I got a hoodie from them on BF last year for like $20. (edit, that might have been the 50% off sale, actually)
Really need to have both Aretha and B.B. this month, but had a 1 month sub I would pop in & out with. As much as I hate it, I guess I'm going to sign up for 3 months and grab these two and I guess something else. If I take the chance of grabbing 1 this month and 1 next. Which one is most likely to still be available next month? I want Aretha more, but feel like it's most likely to still be there as a swap next month.

Could always add a track and swap it this month. I hate to advocate for giving VMP more money, but at $23 those add-on swaps can be bargains!

EDIT: I was confused - looks like these are both being released in Dec. but the sentiment is the same. Classics tend to be more "limited," but if I knew I wanted both I'd probably just add the track for Dec.
Pusha T's verse on the new Kanye album has put me in a huge Pusha T binge all week long. Listening to all of his solo and Clipse albums on repeat. Added New God Flow, which has some of my favorite verses of his, and then ended up listening to that song on repeat over and over and over again on several occasions this week. Had me so pumped for work this morning haha So damn good!
I was just informed that the 1-month sub is now completely gone with the switch to the new store. No more grandfathering in those of us who had it in the past. I only ever pop in every once in a while to grab something I really love, so a 3-month sub will never make sense to me. I guess I'm out for good. I don't understand their logic here, but I guess they're making money so they don't care. Side note, if anyone...

@frodo-pkt good point, but this came straight from a chat I had with CS. I hope they were misinformed, but I doubt that will be the case as they've wanted to get rid of it completely and this is their avenue to do so.

@frodo-pkt that messaging also wasn't there earlier (assuming you're talking about the popup)...I'm hoping it all works itself out, but I'm not super optimistic it will. I was mostly just staying active until I was able to grab Fiona, anyway, though

Oh for sure, it will all come crashing down very soon regardless. Just wanted to clarify if there was an official communication regarding the whole being grandfathered part as I hadn't heard that. I would consider going with 3 months if there is a skip month feature but I don't see that happening as it kind of just creates the same problem that having monthly subs causes.
I created a funky mix for Mixtape Madness, come check it out!

I confirmed I either don't have audiophile ears or my setup just isn't good enough to notice a difference (it's not bad so I'm thinking it's my ears haha). I bought the 200g Acoustic Sounds QRP Norah Jones - Come Away With Me and compared it to my 2012 Rainbo pressing and couldn't tell the difference at all. I can definitely tell when something sounds terrible: distortion, sibilance or noisy, but can't tell the...
Am I going crazy or did Spotify remove the ability to add an entire album to a playlist and make you do it song by song now (on android)? That's the only way I use Spotify, what the hell.

I've always searched for and selected an album and then from that page clicked on the 3 dots icon to open options and select add album to playlist, but now that's gone. Is that how you guys do it? I'm on a family plan but I'm assuming that wouldn't affect the version of the app that's downloaded or anything weird like that.

Yeah. It's still there for me. Three dots, then "add to playlist" ...
