Truth be told, this is a pretty good VMP month. The Salt-n-Pepa and Stevie Nicks albums are stone classics. If I hadn’t spent my $ on other stuff I wanted more, I’d pick em up. If I resub in the future, maybe they’ll be swaptions!
I’m over budget next month on vinyl. I got 3 Kendra Morris albums, Amo (one of my faves from last year), and 2 from the 70s (Heart Like a Wheel and Secret Treaties). No resub to VMP and cutting my own hair for a month help with budget.
Even in the middle of a pandemic - actually, especially in the middle of a pandemic - one is compelled to strut in the grocery store when “I’m still standing” is played
Perfect timing for my VMP subscription to be up! I’m not a fan of The Stooges or Rick Ross. I already have an Otis Redding album and even if I wanted the Classics album, it was sold out. So I gave the money I would’ve spent to an unemployed bartender for karma points.
I feel like I've gradually gotten way more selective about my record purchases. This time last year: "It spins! I'mma get it!" Summer last year: "It slaps! I'mma get it!" Now: "Is this one of the greatest albums of all time? Better stream it 25-37 more times to be sure before I buy it." I think it's space rather than fear that's the mind killer...
For 2020, I’m going to focus on the “essential classics” of the 70s. To get a bit more variety than just a whole bunch of Black Sabbath and David Bowie, I am going to abide by the rule of “only 1 album from this decade per artist.” This January, for the year 1970, I am getting (1) Black Sabbath - Paranoid (2) Led Zeppelin - III (3) Van Morrison - Moondance.
You struttin???
