Holy shit, Gold Against the Soul sounds so damn good on vinyl y’all.
I was kind of shocked with this one though. I’d not ever got a chance to listen over the HiFi. Every listen had been at work. I knew I liked it but damn. The GNR influence is alot more evident with a nice full unmuddied sound. The ones they’ve remastered for vinyl over the last decade all sound excellent. The only minor quibble I’ve had has been them changing the track list on a couple of the albums.

That was always kinda his thing. He is such a control freak and a great musician, he would rather record everything he could by himself. The only other member of SP that really mattered was Jimmy Chamberlain primarily because Corigan was not nearly as good of a drummer as he was at guitar and bass. It’s such a remarkable album and in the middle of a three album run that is pretty great. I had no idea that Corgan did most of it by himself.

Sometimes, I feel like there is some Stockholm syndrome in the whole listen to things three times thing. Since I have listened to the demos each time, this is listen #6 of these songs. I’ve come to two conclusions. 1. The demos are vastly superior to whatever the hell that overproduced album is. 2. While I no longer out right hate it…other than a play through of Manics, I can’t imagine why I would ever listen to this album again.
Incidentally, this song and the closer are great songs but not worth the rest of whatever this is.
Twin being Futurology? That’s up next of course.I didn’t mind this one that much but it’s way down the list of things I go for of theirs.
Its twin is a top 5 manics album for me.

I did really like the Cate Le Bon feature, I’ve been meaning to check her out (who I just discovered is the singer of Deerhunter, who I dig - jeez I’m dense.)
I had read that they were ready to go at the same time but not that they were basically made at the same time. Makes sense given their love of GNR. Makes me wonder if I’ll feel the same with this as I do Use Your Illusion where one good album could have been made from both. Although, your love for the next one gives me hope this is not the case.Yeah they were recorded together in Hansa studios in Berlin. They decided to do what they always felt they should have with Know Your Enemy, and later did with the reissue, and split it into two albums, one quiet and one loud, rather than have a big long messy one.
