The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I really don’t like this chillis album. I have some fond memories of By The Way and Californication but I doubt I’d ever reach for either anymore.

Shocking live, Kedis’ voice was so weak. Mars Volta as support blew them off the stage but got booed for being “weird” 🙄
This reminds me of when I saw Oasis at Red Rocks and Jet opened for them. It was right before Oasis broke up and they were just going through the motions and trying to avoid each other on the stage. Shockingly, Jet crushed it and put on one of the most fun and energetic rock shows I've been to. Don't think I've listened to them since, but they crushed it live.

Had a similar experience with RHCP at Lollapalooza '92. They were the headliner but had to go out there and follow Ministry every night.

Ministry was touring in support of ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ and that record is a brutal, unstoppable beast. Couple that with fire and strobes and mic stands adorned with skulls and voodoo paraphernalia careening around the stage on casters and it was over. The crowd in Charlotte turned completely feral during Ministry lighting multiple bonfires across the amphitheatre lawn.

I've never been a RHCP fan, but I actually felt sorry for them having to go onstage after Ministry slayed everyone each night on that tour. Driving home a friend and I were discussing the show, and I remember telling him (paraphrased) "Red Hot Chili Peppers never stood a chance against Ministry. Even putting the music aside, Ministry had all kinds of voodoo vibe and were causing a borderline arsonists riot. The only card The Peppers could've played was socks on their dicks."

And who hasn't played cards with socks on their dick, amirite?!

Pulp was fine, should probably give another listen some time. I take it that the songs were from different characters? It seemed like Everytime I focused on the lyrics it was about cheating. Yech. The music and energy was great though.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik

I have a soft spot for this album. It was the first album I was denied buying when I was a kid. Definitely a bloated 90's album. You could probably improve this album a good bit by cutting about 4 tracks.

I never listened to a War album before but that was fun. 4/5.

Prince and the Revolution - Purple Rain

I'm not sure if I ever listened to this in full before, but yeah, I pretty much know most of the songs from just hearing them in life. Was really good though. 5/5.

I enjoyed listening to this way more than I was expecting. 4/5.

PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

I think To Bring You My Love is my favorite, but this one is definitely easier to listen to and the track with Thom Yorke is great. 4/5.

Now I got Pulp queued up for the ride home, even though I've listened to that one before and I think I'm caught up on my backlog. Will have to listen to CCR tomorrow.
