The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I wonder if there is another mix lying around like with The Replacements Tim that could fix some of these issues. Someone need to call Rhino.
Would definitely love that, but I think this is it for now. They were pretty much left to their own devices. I think they got a small advance and were committed to the idea of a a double album and ended up cheaping out on the recording costs.

Harvest probably was the first Neil album that I truly fell in love with. I might tell you a different favorite Neil album thirty minutes from now but I have pretty consistently believed that The Needle and the Damage Done is his best song and one of the best songs ever written. It lives in a very special place with the likes of A Day in the Life, God Only Knows, and When Doves Cry in my heart.

Totally agree on Needle. Simple, beautiful, tragic - just sublime.

Harvest is definitely the first Neil album I was aware of. It started this whole NY thing that's with me til this day.

My first exposure to Neil was on the big Zenith AM/FM radio that sat on our kitchen counter when I was a child. It played every morning before school on WJRI-AM where we got vital info like weather, what was for school lunch that day and the Swap Shop. They'd sneak some music in there too.

I guess I was 12 or 13 when I heard Heart Of Gold on the big-body Zenith.

Still got it. Still works...

I don’t think he really registered as a thing with me until college. A friend was really obsessed with Everybody Knows this is Nowhere. MTV was playing Rockin in the Free World all the time. I honestly (as with Dylan) couldn’t get over his voice and was flabbergasted that people thought he was a great guitar player. Harvest Moon really started to change my mind… I definitely came at him from the folkier side in learning to appreciate him. Mirrorball didn’t hurt either.

Yeah looking at his discography… Harvest Moon through Mirrorball were the beginnings of me appreciating him. By the time Silver & Gold came out, I was snatching stuff on release day.
