$0V Sale - How'd Ya Do?

I told my husband that I ordered a Nirvana Unplugged during this sale and said that even though we have it already, it was a bargain. I also said "we can always give it to our daughter as a gift" He replied, "Yeah, that's a great album, always good to have a second copy" 😲

You may have crossed over into a new era. Congratulations.

There aren't a lot of questions in my relationship regarding this type of stuff and there hasn't been for many years. She knows who I am and, over time, has become almost as bad on occasion. I'm going to do what I do and, if a pallet rolls up to the door, I'm just going to need to find room for it (tbh: I usually can't). Part of that has to do with the fact that I'm way too obsessive about deals and she knows there's absolutely no way that I paid full price for it.

When the latest The National album was announced earlier this year, he said to me - there is no reason to get every variant like you did for the last few albums.
After we went to the record debut show in Woodstock (Bearsville, NY), on the drive home, he asked, "You ordered all the variants, right?" hahahahahaha

curious as why it would be wrong to sell something as new if sealed and never played?
Yeah, I don't know, but I've seen so many new-looking, sealed records sold in used sections of record stores that I've deduced it's a transparency thing. Might even be related to their record-keeping for tax purposes. They can rate it 'as new,' but it still would be in the used section, or in some other way marked as a used record. (One of my locals has a system where all their new records end in $-.99, and all their used record end in $-.95.)

In regards to selling new items to your local record shop, how much should I expect them to offer me for extra items I picked up in the SOV sale, e.g. McCartney Flaming Pie, Nirvana Unplugged or various Tone Poets that are popping up on sale?

Depends on the title and I'd imagine it's not consistent across the board, but if they reference Discogs to factor in value and the secondary market is flooded with these free titles right now -- as I assume they might be -- I wouldn't be expecting to get rich off these, if you even get the shipping cost back.

Yeah I think $5 to $10 would be typical if the market wasn't flooded with these titles. I'm thinking maybe $2 per now that it is. Although my local doesn't check discogs for things still available from their distributors.

so in general shops only offer $5-10 for records that are well taken care of and regardless of market value? if so i'm not supporting any shop that takes part in doing that.

That's not the conclusion I would draw. If a shop still has access to a record from their distributor, it doesn't much matter what might be happening on discogs, so no point looking. Beyond that, you're right, it would be foolish to offer records to a shop that ignored market value in deciding on trade-in value.
