A Simple Twist Of Fate - The Bob Dylan Thread

Here’s the first review of the new album that I’ve read. Can’t pretend that I’m not buzzing about getting my hands on it next Friday!

Well, both are five-star reviews! Can't deny I'm really itching to hear the whole thing. Thinking about taking Friday afternoon off work to give it (and then the "new" Neil Young!) my undivided attention!

ive read a few others and they’re all 5/5! I’m really looking forward to picking it up on Friday and having the weekend to give it a few listens!

Just finished my first listen. I've historically been slow on the uptake for his latter-day bluesy/standards songs, so I think it'll take a while before I get into those as much, but initially, the "acoustic" songs (as it were) just blow me away. And "Key West" is absolutely stunning.

On about my fifth listen now, on the deck with a glass of whiskey. Goodbye Jimmy Reed is hitting much better now; the guitar tone and lick at the end of each verse is just killer. False Prophet is still way too long for me. It feels like 9 minutes when it should be three. It's just verse after verse with no real chorus or bridge, which we all know he can do great, but it doesn't build to anything here. Black Rider is excellent, and Key West is still my standout, though I'm also starting to see what most folks seemed to see in I Made Up My Mind... right away.

I did really like Tempest but I think this is my favourite Dylan since Time Out of Mind. After a couple weeks, how is everyone else feeling?

I’m a huge Dylan fan, so I probably have some bias towards his music. But I don’t think I’ve truly LOVED a record of his since Time Out of Mind. That said, I think this album is really phenomenal. It hooked me pretty much instantly and each subsequent listen I’ve found it even more enjoyable and endearing.

I love his lyrics and I find the arrangements and playing to compliment him perfectly. It feels very earnest and in the moment, especially some of the quieter moments.

I think this may be his best in... a long time.

Convince me it's worth shelling out for the Ultra Disc BOTT over the MOFI pressing from 2013. Go!

Hahaha cue @Joe Mac and maybe @MikeH (?)!

I’m still waiting on mine to arrive from the target sale. It ended up being $90 which wasn’t much more than the regular MoFi so I went for it! @Joe Mac is probably the guy to ask about this so I’ll let him chime in!

It’s quite simply the best sounding record I’ve heard, by a distance. The 33 Mofi is good but this makes it sound meh.
