Album of The Year - Endgame

amazing to see the love for alanis in here

you know what, to me, is the most amazing thing about jagged little pill? in 2019 it would sound COMPLETELY different to what constitutes 'mainstream' music - it sounds really discordant and aggressive and outre compared to what is modern 'pop' music

but at the time it felt soooooooo straightforward

i was never a fan but the gf at the time absolutely loved that record, as did i imagine many, many then 15 year olds

Damn, I had a lot of great albums to choose from this time around...
  1. D'Angelo - Brown Sugar
  2. Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
  3. Goodie Mob - Soul Food
  4. 2Pac - Me Against the World
  5. Mobb Deep - The Infamous...
  6. Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords
  7. Mariah Carey - Daydream
  8. Ol' Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers (The Dirty Version)
  9. O(+> - The Gold Experience
  10. Waiting to Exhale (Original Soundtrack Album)
...and here's a Spotify playlist of Billboard's top 100 of '95.

Alright, ya'll need to stop with these difficult years! I was 7-8 in '95, so I remember a lot of this music from roughly that time period. Since there's so many great albums, I've decided to do a then-ish list (the list that me from 8-13 would make) and a now-ish list (me from the past 5-10 years). There's going to be some overlap, but enough differences to justify two lists. Also worth noting anything in the Then-ish list that's not in the Now-ish can be considered a runner up.

Side note: I'm seeing a lot of love for Pulp. I'm not familiar with this, at least by name, so I'm checking it out as soon as I finish listening to the new Black Mountain.

Then-ish Top 10
1. Rancid - ...And Out Come the Wolves
2. No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
3. AFI - Answer That and Stay Fashionable
4. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
5. Alice in Chains - S/T
6. Foo Fighters - S/T
7. Blink 182 - Cheshire Cat
8. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
9. Goo Goo Dolls - A Boy Named Goo
10. Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

Now-ish Top 10
1. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
2. Elliott Smith - S/T
3. Slowdive - Pygmalion
4. Soul Asylum - Let Your Dim Light Shine
5. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
6. Goo Goo Dolls - A Boy Named Goo
7. Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut
8. Fugazi - Red Medicine
9. Sleater-Kinney - S/T
10. Rancid - ...And Out Come the Wolves
