Saturday Looks Good To Me - All Your Summer Songs

I work a 4x10 shift Wednesday through Saturday so based on that Wednesday is my “Monday” and Saturday is my “Friday” so on a Wednesday, Saturday looks good to me always. Not to mention some top notch early 2000s LoFi Indie Pop always raises my spirits.

FYI: I just looked this up on Discogs and someone is selling a VG+/VG+ copy for $11 shipped. It’s a pretty great album and definitely a great deal.

Everybody should own this album

Day 21: A Prince Among Peasants
play a Prince record
Prince - Controversy

Boy that escalated quickly, I have a pretty decent Prince bench but in looking over what’s already been played I think this is the last Prince studio album I own that would still qualify (still have a few singles and a comp available in the “in case of an emergency...” pile) and TBH it’s one of my favorites. While it might be a bit lacking in hit singles it more than makes up for it in energy and kink.

DAY 22
GENRE ADULTERY
Blur - Blur
I usually try not to repeat artists for challenge threads but felt like playing this album and it is a great fit for this theme!

As the britpop sound that they helped popularize began to dwindle in popularity in the late 90s, Blur jumped off the britpop ship entirely with their 1997 self-titled album, where they shifted from their usual sound to a heavier, more lo-fi approach influenced by the American indie rock scene of the time.

Day 22: Genre Adultery
play a record that deviated from that artist’s usual sound or style

Herbie Hancock - Future Shock

Herbie was constantly evolving with the times. He would explore bop, modal jazz, post-bop, jazz fusion, jazz funk, disco, experimental and free jazz. The list goes on.

On this album, Herbie would incorporate elements of hip-hop music. It’s not my favorite Herbie record, although it has grown on me over time. It remains a bold experiment, even if it sounds a bit dated in 2021.
