Audio Hardware Deals: Speakers, Headphones, Turntables, Etc.

It was showing as $5k last night. Try this:

Not sure about $5k for that given what else is available for $5k-ish, but the Yamahas in this series are fantastic. I got a sweetheart deal on my A-S2200 in 2020 during the heart of pandemic — $2,550 (technically used, but from a dealer who just wanted to try it out first). I think I could still sell it for close to that now but would only do it for the sake of variety (trying something else). It’s great, especially at that price.

Yeah I wouldn’t buy one but I know the 3200 is an aspirational amp for many. NIB with warranty for 5k isn’t the worst price in the world.

In that case, AT or Mofi on an ultradeck?

Mofi StudioSilver/gold or Art9 XA/XI
I’m considering a Hana S or M series myself. I’d go for one of the MoFi carts, but my assumption is they are overpriced and an AT or Hana cart would offer better value and equal or better performance.

Truth be told I’m still salty about the Ultradeck price drop about 2 months after I bought mine. I think the Ultradeck is great, but am going to be very careful before buying anymore Mofi gear. If the Mofi MC carts were getting the 35-40% discount that the MM carts are now getting I’d be more likely to pick one up.

Yeah, that is a relevant factor for sure. I had hana on the list as well, no opposed to that. Honestly on the TT front I have definitely considered just saving up $5500ish for a 1200G + cart.

It would take a bit, but might be worth it.

Honestly deep in my mind I think cables are the front runner though.

The 1200G is not a bad move. I think one of those is in my future. I’ve thought about simplifying my setup and going all Technics with an SU-R1000 and a 1200G. That maybe more of a fantasy. 😂

Heard it, didn't impress me. Maybe it was other things in the demo system, but it was bland enough to never pursue it again.

The TT though, I honestly love the sound of every VPI I've heard, but I also really like the 1200 series and the ease of ownership is much smoother with the technics in my mind.

IDK. I’m not anti cable, but if you already have decent cables that would be the last thing I’d upgrade. I use Blue Jean cable from TT to phono pre. All my other interconnection are Mogami from Worlds Beat Cables. Also use WBC for speaker cables.
I'm very much a cable guy. I wasn't for a long time, but I can't deny the experiences I've had in cable testing. It doesn't impact as much in every system, but I know from testing other cables in my system that cables are a viable upgrade. Especially if I go further up with other equipment.

I've been on a new equipment pause for about two years now and I've learned a few things about my journey to-date. I'm finding that all the equipment I have now is "good enough". I could go for a flashier Luxman or McIntosh integrated, but I don't think I'd enjoy the music more. I have sufficient power and clarity from my speakers and amps to make anything but the priciest upgrades seem like a lateral move.

My last major upgrade was to put a new Luxman turntable in place of my trusty Traveler, moving the VPI to the office system. Although I could make a mountain out of the molehill differences between the two, I find the sonic performance of each to be equally pleasing in regular use. Even the pair of Hanas that I use on the turntables put me into a comfortable and incurious position regarding further upgrades.

I'm not swearing off upgrades forever, but it's calming to be over the multi-year bout of upgrade-itis.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I think I am approaching this place myself. I have a little more road to travel on my equipment journey. More out of curiosity than necessity. At this point my future ‘upgrades’ will be speakers and experimenting with different carts on my turntables.

On the speaker front, open baffle and high efficiency speakers are of interest to me. I’m also going to start some DIY assembly type projects. I have a Bottlehead Crack on order to get some practice assembling these types of kits before I take on the challenge of assembling an Eros phono preamp. I’ve also been dipping my toe into wood working and see speakers and component racks in my future.

A guy I know on the Macresource (computer) message board listed this nice Bang & Olufsen B&O Beogram RX-2 turntable w/ MMC 4 Stylus

I don't know if $180 is reasonable or not.

Nice price, but the stylus replacements will kick your ass.
