Back In The Day: The Billboard Modern Rock Charts From 35 Years Ago

Was that this?
These never caught on in the west but they were a bit more popular in Japan.
Never really saw to many of the CD-5 (actually about 4.75in) in North America. I remember seeing and owning several CD-3s which were obviously 3in in diameter. Lots of cd players couldn’t play the CD-3 without a special adaptor to hold it in place in the cd drawer. Talk about a stupid design.

Interesting insight into the methodology here, with the different stations ranked. Radio certainly isn't driving sales and discovery anymore, if anything the script has flipped and they are programming to the rankings I would think.
It was certainly more akin to the cmj methodology but I think by this time top 40 radio wasn’t necessarily dictating trends anymore.
